One time i got more drunk than usual. I started to speak with friends without any stuttering, the whole night. Usually(when iam not drunk) iam the silent one, not the talkative one. Especially that night, whatever the topics my friends started to speak, I just continued with it and gave them good ideas. And i was speaking all night without a stuttering problem, I was'nt even thing about it.
Before drinking i had a stuttering prob. After drinking i don't. Next morning everyone of my friends told be me that i am a talkative guy. Right after the moment they gave me compliment. I replied to them with a stuttering voice. To solve my prob. i cannot get 24/7 drunk. Normally, if i want to say something to anyone, i start with words exactly what i want to say. But somewhere in the middle, i just forward-scan the words iam gonna say. The self-consious says i can't say that particular word. So, i take a turn, that turn takes another turn. I totally mess-up. Something soo easy to say, i mess up.

I have several uncles and cousins who used to stutter. I don't recall any of them mentioning that drinking alcohol affected their stuttering, but then I don't think any of them drink so they may not know. All of them got help through The Stuttering Foundation and their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer." Only one uncle worked through the book with a speech therapist who specialized in treating stuttering. All of them were able to overcome their stuttering with the exception of times of extreme stress. Check out their web site at www.stutteringhelp.org.

So sorry for your problem. That is very interesting what you have said. I have never known someone who stutters. I have heard it said that someone who stutters can sing without a problem. (There is a famous singer who stutters when talking but has made many records) Have you ever heard or tried this.?? Have you been to any doctors --or speech therapists for this?? Don't know if they could help or not. Best of luck to you.

yeah....alcohol is like magic....things happen:P or thats my theory....but you cant constantly drink (this is what i did and now im quite ill from it and can only drink in moderation-there goes the magic:-P)
but this problem is obviously from stress and anxiety of some kind....its good to get maybe so hypnotherapy or cognitive behavioural therapy......these get the unconcious thoughts or anxiety and try to change them into positive and soon its natural not to think the negative thing- even though it feels like it can't be controlled. try to stay off meds as they will just cause more troubel!!!
good luck!

Most certainly could be a medical issue: your ability to speak and comprehend speech *IS* a medical phenomena. People who have had certain types of strokes or neurological issues that effect the muscles of speech, for example, have difficulty speaking.

My nephew stutters when he is anxious. He gets a little nervous and it is all over. I think you can get some help with that. Don't be so hard on yourself.
