That's a good question. It would have made sense to people back then for him to "rise" up to heaven, because they actually thought that heaven was up in the sky.

Now we know that its pretty much infinite outer space up there. Today Christians say that Heaven isn't up in the sky, its in another dimension or something like that. So, why WAS Jesus rising up when he supposedly ascended to Heaven? Was he just doing what they all thought he should be doing, so as not to confuse them?

Of course, maybe he wasn't rising up because he meant to. It could have been an alien abduction, and they were just sucking him up with a tractor beam or something. Maybe his followers just left out the fact that Jesus was yelling, "Help! Help! Something is pulling me up into the sky!" simply because they thought that it detracted from the overall story.

Heaven isn't "in the sky" just as Hell isn't "down below our feet." Heaven is on a different plane of existance. If his physical body did lift up in the air, I would imagine that his body "phased out" of this realm and into the spiritual one. With God being His Dad and all, that shouldn't be too hard. ;-)

when he was born to Mary, he had a physical body... after he was crucified and resurrected, he had what the bible calls a 'glorified body' or one that has been changed to last for eternity... when he ascended he went to heaven to God the Father... he will come back to earth again the same way he ascended... on a cloud...

The Prophets messages have three corners of space-real spaces. The first space of history that they talk and prophesied about is our universe.
