I am a Christian, and for the most part, I haven't run onto too much hatred here -- at least not aimed at me, personally. And oddly enough, the people who *have* been nasty to me have been fellow Christians who hate my Catholic faith. I find that to be really sad.
I try to discuss religious and spiritual issues with tolerance and humor, which may account for the fact that I haven't run onto too much overt dislike. And most people here are pretty decent sorts who treat you with about the same amount of respect that you treat them.

Atheists, like Christians, teach love not hate.
I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think.
— Socrates
Just think of the tragedy of teaching children not to doubt.
— Clarence Darrow
In a better world, science teachers would teach creationism along with evolution as an exercise in critical thinking.

I don’t dislike all followers of any religion. I dislike the religion. I dislike all religions. I think that religion is immoral, hypocritical, self serving, irrational, and dangerous. I think that religion will eventually be the force behind the demise of all humankind. Where is the reasoning? The notion of heaven and hell is so irrational that I find myself bewildered at the amount of people that actually are able to but this fairy tale. Why does science prove them all to all be utterly ridiculous? Do you honestly believe that the world was created by a man-shaped God in six days? Do you really believe that a God capable of creating something as unfathomably great as this universe got tired and needed to rest for a day? A day is a measure of time linked to this planet; it could be a trillion years and in the face of eternity, there is no difference. There is no point of reference. Do you really think a God who was able to create the universe including you and I would torture one of his creations for all of eternity for merely saying his name in vain? Is “he” that sensitive, cruel and unreasonable? Evolution is not just a theory. When scientists speak of the theory of gravitation, or the germ theory of disease, they are not casting any doubt upon disease or gravity as facts of nature. Over 99% of the species that ever walked, flew, or slithered upon this planet are now extinct. This fact alone rules out intelligent design. Christianity is anti-birth control except for one form; abstinence. In third-world countries where the mortality rate for new born babies is sickening our foreign aid does not include condoms or drugs, it consists of good Christians telling these poor people to abstain from that which is only natural. This approach is obviously not working. Our president just vetoed another bill that would allow stem cell research. He’s a good Christian. People are suffering and dying every day from diseases and injuries that this promising new science could quite possibly one day prevent and cure, but a superstitious and immoral leader allows his Christian ideals to advise him. Stem cells come from a blastocyst, which is a collection of about 150 cells that have yet to even become an embryo. The brain of a house fly contains 150,000 cells. We allow mothers, father, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, friends, and other loved ones to suffer and die for these undifferentiated cells because they are already endowed with a soul. I could go on and on with reasons why I believe religion is a curse upon humanity, but I’ll just make a book recommendation that explains a lot of the irrationality and dangers of religions in greater detail. It is a very short read. There are many good books available; however, this one can be read in a couple of hours. It is called, “Letter to a Christian Nation” and its author is Sam Harris. I hope the age of reason comes upon humanity before we allow the religious people of this planet to kill us all. I hope they wake up and grow up in time.

The fact that Christians are being persecuted for our beliefs isn't very hard to believe, seeing as it has happened since the 1st century. I know from the Bible and from my own personal experience as a Christian that I will be persecuted. "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived." (2 Timothy 3:12-13) I don't need to read this to know what Paul was talking about; I've seen it unfolding right before me, even today.

In my opinion, it's because many Christians are indoctrinated with the belief that the world hates them and that they are being persecuted for their beliefs, from versus such as:
"Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you." 1 John 3:13

There are a lot of hatemongering bashers in here. They call us intolerant, but you'll see their hatemongering. Just ignore them. Most are under the age of 15, and apparently their parents can't be bothered monitoring their computer usage. Mature atheists don't act like this, but then they're in areas they have interest in so aren't in this section anyway. So, yeah, it does appear that our tolerant "atheists" are nothing more than hatemongers, but like I said, they're only the bottom of the barrel variety, not the real thing.

Real Christan are not in the business of hateing, but of loving, and forgiveing, So if your a believer now confess your sins, before GOD thru Jesus his son, and you will be forgiven that's it, and we'll get over it. We are not, and He is. therefore we are not to be looked upon as rulers or masters, but a brother, and sister in Christ the same as you. Some our older, so some may be big brothers and sisters, and even that's your choice words, we have one purpose and that's to lead or boost the sinner to GOD.

I disagree with just about all tenants of the religion but I believe in the right of an individual to worship. I will not agree on a lot of points but I can respect that a person is made up of more than just what their religion or non-religion is.

You're a nice enough person. Nobody would care what you believe or what religion you follow, as long as you're respectful. Be a Christian, be an atheist, be a Hindu, whatever floats your boat.
