oh i'm so excited for you! I got my little girl at 5 months and now shes 10mnths and its been wonderful! I was curious abouth that too but mine is pure and has a little bit of curl in her hair(its a puppy thing) it gets straight as they get older.
just so ya know they take a lot of grooming, brushing them as many times a day(everyday) to help prevent matts. I brush mine atleast once a day and she still gets lil tangles but if you find one take care of it right away or it will become very painful to remove later : )
they are so much fun and SUPER CUTE! i love my maltese, she is my lil girl. she's the world to me. I hope you've done your research and know they r quite fragil but they still love to play play play!!
BEST WISHES AND ENJOY! (oh im curious what are you naming him/her?)

Most of the malteses I know (of any age) have a slightly wavy coat.
If there is doubt about his parentage, are you getting papers? Are they AKC papers? Are both parents on site? They should let you see the mother at the very least.
If not, then buyer beware.
Here's a good website about bringing your new maltese puppy home; tips for an easy transition:

All maltese puppies hair looks curly or wavy. It'll grow out dont worry. It just looks like that because of the hair cut ( well not really a hair cut, but hairstyle )

The only way to know if it is a purebred is if the puppy comes with AKC papers. These papers tell you that the parents are registered as purebreds. AKC papers are not an endorsement for quality of the dog--there are many "purebred" dogs that do not fit the standard for the breed. I guess it's possible for a breeder to lie about a dogs heritage, but hopefully that is not the case.

PLEASE DON'T BUY A PUPPY IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN OR TOUCHED IT! There are scammers everywhere, and some of their favorite scams is to show you a pic of a puppy, usually a maltese, yorkie, or bulldog, get you to send money, and you never get anythig for it. No puppy, no refund...nada! IF you do get a puppy, it is most likely poorly bred, a product of a puppy mill, and ill.

i had a maltese puppy just like yours. mine had a curly wavysih fur but when it got older the fur just straightned out like a normal maltese. there is nothing to worry about. just love your pet for what it is. have fun!

I think as he matures, the coat will become straight. Unless, the people are lying and he is really not purebred.
