have your impressions changed?

I live in spain and i have to say sincerely that i didnt like christian/catholic people (catholics are christians whether christians in here like it or not) in here but i think that christians in the u.s (some/a few/32 of them...dont want to be accused of generalizing) are extremely weird...a weirdness that borders insanity.
I would have never thought it possible that religious people (apart from fundamentalist muslims) could be so delusional and ignorant.

It is an oddity that the most powerful economy in the world belongs to a population that largely engages in magical thinking. It's no less weird living here, particularly in the more religious areas like the South and the Midwest. There, the second question someone asks you after learning your name is where you go to church. God talk and prayers are everywhere, but at the same time, those areas are more prone to crime, domestic violence, pornography shops, and capital punishment.

In America, many Christian congregations have taken on a "frozen-in-time" quality, where you will hear the same phrasing and theology that was present in the time of our Civil War, the 1860s. A century and a half have not changed this version of civil religion, and in that way it differs very little from catholicism. If anything, our fundamentalists have become even more conservative. The Southern Baptists have now ceased ordaining women, and they are willing to kick congregations out of affiliation if they even breathe a word that sounds like acceptance of gay people as members.

If you want to see a mostly non-religious America, come to New England. Our towns still have churches perched in their centers, but they also serve as town halls and many of them are Unitarian, which makes belief in God an option, not a requirement.

Well, it's scary to see how many Christians are very delusional and ignorant, but I know all of them are not like that. Some are very nice, so I guess I've stuck to my conclusion that some religious people are hateful and judgmental and some are not. It's not always about the religion, it depends on the person.

Religion THRIVES on delusion, hon. Religion IS delusion. Eveyrthing about religion is based upon faith, not proof, and the people who believe all of that adore believing that they have no power over their own lives. They love to say , "it is god's will." Read the book, The God Delusion. Show a religious person proof of, say, DNA and how evolution works, and it is absolutely beyond them, for several reasons: They were brain washed as children, they simply aren't very bright, and have a poor education, and religion is "comforting". I have never met a stupid, uneducated atheist. I cannot say the same for christians..........

I don't think the fundamentalists of Christianity are much different that the Muslim fundamentalist. Yes they are both nut jobs. There minds are closed to anything that doesn't come straight from their holy book.

Aside from the a$$h0le that made the first post, most Christians are OK in my book. They may not believe the same things as I do, but as long as exercise that same principle towards me, it's all gooood.

They are very defensive, and many are bigoted though there are a few more liberal relaxed ones who I have a considerably larger amount of respect for. However, most are really defensive and angry. It doesn't seem like a very happy religion to be a part of if that's how it makes you when your beliefs are questioned.

I don't base my opinions of Christians based on this site. The ones I know in person are very nice people.
