She has a lot of hoarded food. Should I put her hoarded food back in the cage (in her favorite hoarding spot) or should I let her start from scratch with a new stash of food??

Some people will put a little bit of the original food back, as hamsters can get incredibly grumpy when they get put back into a scrubbed, clean cage LOL!

But I prefer not too. I would rather his food was fresh ,rather than a week old. He used to be grumpy when he went back to a clean cage, but he is 15 months old now and is used to this being done weekly so he is fine about it.

To keep your hamster busy when she has returned to a clean cage, chuck some treats around the cage , and some shredded toilet paper scattered around. It will keep your little girl busy racing around collecting food and creating a nest, so the experiance will be more fun to her when you have cleaned her cage out.

I vote for throwing out old hamster food. The hamster has all day to hoard more food.

[Did I pass inspection?]

If it's all DRY and clean, then I might put some back.. but usually I just toss it all out. It does annoy hamsters to no end to lose their precious food-stash though.

put just a little in the spot so she can find it and so she knows that its ok and she isnt doing wrong. animals get confused when things arent where they are. but remember to switch up the cage once in a while but leave the "potty spot" (where the hampster goes to the bathroom most) and the spot where they hord the food the same! it teaches them better habbits for easier cleaning for you!

Let her start from scratch. She will always hoard her food, that's just what they do, but she should always have fresh food.

Avoid hamster psychological problems, lol, I would put it back in her favorite hoarding spot. Just because it's probably a comfort thing. If it's wet or yucky, throw it out though.

when you clean you hamster cage take some of the food out and leave some behind. Also put the bedding in the same shape (if you can) your hamster will apreciate it. (hamsters dont like making their beds)

I have a dwarf hamsters when I clean there cage there's all was have food.I just throw it away. Don't think about saving it.That way they can keep them busy storing food.If you leave the food there it'll start growing stuff. I say don't keep the food throw it away.

when my hamster does it and i take the food out he freaks out and starts looking for it then he goes to his food and gets more and puts it in! I would take it out and let your hamster start over or you can take out the old stuff and then you can put some fresh food in it so your hamster doesn't freeak out and start looking everywhere!! My hamster would spend like an hour looking for it!!!! Hope this helps!
