You have a silly question here. How can you be the ONLY one??
My older sister is 10 years older than me (she is 36). My other older sister is 7 years older than me (33). I have a younger sister that is 10 years younger than me (now 17). My older sister is also a sister of my younger sister and they are 17 years apart. I am 26.
My little sister who is 17 years old is 30 years younger than her older brothers from their father's previous marriage.
My little sister is 3 years older than our niece. I am 11 years older than my oldest niece. I know a girl that is older than her uncle.
Mixed families and age differences are now normal.

First your 20 yo shouldn't you be enjoying teaching your little brother instead of being embarrassed by him? Your parents love each other enough to bring another person in this world. Be proud of it. I am the youngest sibling of over 20 brothers and sisters. My oldest brother is 56 yo he is 21 years older than me. Most of them I don't even talk to anymore. Mostly because of the distances between us.They are all my father's only 3 are my mother's. So you want to discuss a possibly embarassing family, think about this, you could have nobody. Don't be ashamed of your family, I'm sure they are not ashamed of you. One day you'll have kids and you'll feel really silly for feeling the way you do now. Get to know him (your little bro) His heart would be broken if he knew you hated him. Could you imagine the most important person in your life hating you? It's highly doubtful that you could be his mom at ten yo. Maybe tell your friends to let up on your family, they have no business judging. All families have a story, yours isn't near even close to bad. So be proud of your family and where you came from. It's YOUR family, you only get one. If you know a family that the siblings are only 6 months apart, you should think about the math for a minute, it takes 9 months to have a baby. So there would be something funny going on for them to be a day or 6 months apart. Your family is normal.

This is just ridiculous! There are a lot of people with age differences this far apart! Also, you don't sound 20, you sound 13! You are an adult now, and you sound like a whiny little girl. What in the world could be so embarrassing about having a 10 year old brother? Take advantage of the situation and hang out with him. You know, take him places with you and be a great older sister. I'm sure he would love that. And you could NOT be his mother. I don't know many 10 year olds that have kids....do you? Quit being so self centered

I'm 27 and my youngest brother just turned 12...they love having a much older sister. I was mistaken as his mother when I was 16, I just told the guy sorry no I am his sister and he is the one who felt embarassed. You should not hate your family or brother over something so silly as an age difference. I am the oldest in my family my other brothers between me and the youngest are 14, 18 and 25. So we are a bit spread out but I think its fun to have a really young brother...gives me an excuse to do things I loved to do as a kid but don't do now that I am grown cuz I would just look silly doing it alone. :)

I have a younger bother and sister. My Bro is 10 years younger and my sis is 12!
My husband is the opposite, his sisters are 16 and 18 years older then him and he has a 13 year old adopted sister. (He's 24)
Some family's are just different that way.
But by the time I was old enough to drive I used to take them to movies and stuff and old ladies would tell me it was horrible that I was a teen mother. My little bro or sis would usually say "She's not our Mom she's our sister" then they would blush and walk away. So I know how you feel! But don't let it embarrass you! It's just the way your family is and there is no changing it. you have to accept it and find a way to cope. Turn it into a joke or laugh with them.

No it is not a stupid question... you simply didn't know before that there are families out there with similar situations...
I am 33 and my brother is 23...
When I was reading your question, it made me laugh... "all my friends have siblings that are like... 6 mths apart". In the end you wrote "these days there only 1 day apart"....
I can tell you even shorter than that... my nephews are 15 minutes apart!!! (of course they are twins... :) ...)

I have 4 kids, oldest is 14, 12, 5, 23 mths. So my oldest and my youngest are 12 yrs apart!!!! Has of now my oldest loves my youngest daughter. I asked her about your "q " and she said its not a big thing. Its not your fault. And yes it sucks having people comment you on this issue. Its like they don't have anything else better to do.
I understand your an adult, well your friends should be too!!!
You should be proud of you brother! He probably looks up to you even if you don't see it!
Theres other things in life your needing to be concern about. Just let it be.

My sis is 13 years younger than me. We are best friends and sisters. I have absolutely no idea what your problem is. You know- friends come and go, but you and your bro will be siblings forever! Build a close relationship now, because it seems to be up to you, if that happens or not.... obviously you are the one who has a problem with being so much older.
