This is a great question. My sister and I were discussing how we could get my mother (she's 92) to stop staining everything she wears. We thought of designing something which didn't look like a bib, but WAS a bib. Good luck with that!

Check out your local medical supply store. Also, I believe McCall's has a pattern for one you can make that resembles a smock. You can also speak with a local pharmacist, they are usually very helpful with these things.

many people just make their own from towels but you may be able to find them at a medical supply store.

you can make your own using dish towels and velcro. find a facility like a nursing home, that uses them and see if they could order some for you.
