You can NOT ask other people to make that decision for you and you can not choose a dog based on other people's suggestions or on what a dog looks like. All of the dogs in the toy group differ in temperament and personality and what works and appeals to some people may not to you. Since you have decided you want a small dog what you need to do is research the toy breeds and chose one that is right for you that will fit in with your lifestyle.
Here is the link for the toy group on the akc website.

Good luck with your selection.

Well theres the miniature pinscher and toy fox terrier which are almost exactly like a chihuahua but a little bigger. Some longer haired dogs are the Pomeranian, Maltese, Yorkshire Terrier, Shih Tzu, Papillon, and the Toy Poodle. Most toy breeds are the same in temperament to an extent. Do some research on these breeds and you may end up wanting more than just one!

I have a small smooth coat chihuahua. He is attached to me only. He is not very friendly to other dogs, or people. The nice thing is he loves to cuddle and sit in my lap. Hence term lap dog. He is also excellent for letting me know when someone is at the door. But most of the time he is pretty lazy and just likes to be held.

Honesly I would go with a Miniature Pinscher. They are cheerful energetic and they will keep you entertained for hours. They love to snuggle and make great lap dogs, they are not too fond of the cold weather. There the type of little dog that gets the name KIng Of Toys because they have it all. They might be little but they are big at heart and would give there life for there owner without thinking twice dispite there small size. They are also very good with Kids

I would prefer the smart type of dog. Some dogs looks sort of dumb...with a flat nose and tongue sticking out, or maybe big huge eyes popping out..they look gross.
The easiest dog to keep, is Jack Russel, Dushands, beagle, or Basset hounds. Choose dos with shorter ears..so that it's easier to maintain..and seldom have ear infection. And eat a lot less than the big dogs. Good luck!

I personally don't like small dogs, and dogs just can't get attached to ONE person, that would mean isolating your dog to only you, and that's not healthy for a puppy, or any dog at any age. It might not affect their PHYSICAL health, but it could stop their social skills, whether getting used to other dogs or people. a 'good" sort of dog that you may be looking for, though, is probably a Dachshund dog. They can be VERY social (as they should be), or they can preffer only ONE person.

Chihuahua is the anwer but if that's not gonnas work then I would suggest a rat terrier. Not all of them will attach themselves like a Chi but if you go through a rescue group, then perhaps they will already know it's personality unlike buying a puppy.

mini italian greyhound
get it from a rescue
info
Faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall couches in a single bound, the Italian Greyhound dog is a miniature sighthound with all the speed, agility and prey drive of a Greyhound dog, but lapdog sized and melt-your-heart sweet. Tough to housetrain and even tougher to ignore, this scantily-clad Velcro dog wants your attention as much as your warmth

i would get a chihuahua, but personally, i wouldget a puppy, that way it has time to get to know you, and that way you'll be that person that the dog knows best, and likes best. for images of chihuahuas, try this website. Also if you get a dauschund, be aware that there may be lots of holes around your house since they were bred to be tunnel dogs.

You can get a miniature Pincher, a Dauschund, a chihuahua, a beagle, a bichon frise, a short haired mutt... all of these can be small lapdogs that bond to you only.
