Goldie, like Goldilocks and the three bears. Or Mimsey, or Karmen since she looks like Carmel. She sounds cute. Congrats!!!!

Or this site is for chihuahua's but I'm sure you can use it for any dog.....

Choosing a name for your chihuahua is a very important decision. You need to name him or her quickly, and it needs to be one you will be happy with for the rest of your lives.

Likely you are here because you don't want to name your dog any of the common chihuahua names. Would you like something personal and original, but are having trouble in the creative department?

On this page, I will show you how to come up with perfect chihuahua names- FREE. I won't list a whole lot of names, because, face it, lots of people get names from internet sites, and then those names aren't so "original" anymore. If someone asks how you chose the name, you want to come up with an interesting thought process to share - not, oh, I got it off a website or out of a book!

Your chihuahua's name is a reflection of your personality and can indicate what things are important to you. It can also show your unique knowledge and creativity.

Before we get started, lets go over a general common-sense list of what to consider when naming your chihuahua:

Don't pick a name that sounds like a command (sit, stay, come...) For example, the names Mo, Joe, and Beau all sound like "No."
According to some experts, the ideal dog name is two syllables and ends with a vowel, like "Cisco." It's easier for the dog.
Choose a name that can be said clearly. This also makes it easier for the dog to recognize their own name.
LETS GET CREATIVE & FIND CHIHUAHUA NAMES!
Ready to start the creative process and get those juices flowing? Great! I would like you to get out a piece of paper and something to write with.

If you come up with a name immediately, good for you! However, I would take a day or two to think on your responses and the whole picture. If you have a bad memory like me, you might not come up with great answers until later when you take your mind off the subject.

INSTRUCTIONS: Take your paper and fold it in half, lengthwise, so it will be divided into two columns. Write "You" on top of the left side and "Dog" on top of the right side. You will write the answers to the "You" questions on the left side (questions 1-10) and the "Dog" answers will go on the right (questions 11-14).

You may have a lot of info to put into the "You" side. So write small and neat to make room for all the info and for any later notes.

If you think you need more room, then use two pieces of paper. One for "You" and one for "Dog" questions.

PART 1: Let's Talk About YOU!

What kind of person are you? How would those around you describe you? Are you a girly-girl, a tomboy, a computer geek, a rebel, a rocker...? Write down the best description, the shorter the better. You can write more than one - but not too many!

What do you do? Are you a car salesman? A housewife? Write down your "title."

Think about music. What kind of music do you listen to? Do you have all-time favorite songs, bands or artists? Is there one song that has very special meaning? Write just a couple names down.

What books or literature are your favorites? Again, do you have an all-time favorite book or author? Write some of these names down.

Write down your favorite movies and characters. Do you have favorite scenes and quotes?

Write down your favorite TV shows and characters.

Any cartoons or children's shows that tickle your fancy, that have been life-time favorites? Write them down.

Do you have heroes? Think about historical figures. Has anyone inspired you?

What are your special interests? Do you like learning about the old west, nature, birds, cars, astrology, silver-screen movie stars, WWII, sewing, art, exotic locations, etc. Write as many as you can down.

Now think about the ideal name. What kind of name are you aiming for? Write down any of the suggestions below or make up your own. Elaborate if you can. For instance, if you write down "clever" and you have an idea of how to narrow it down, please do so. For example, you could write "political" or some other term along with it.

* Plain Human Name
* Meaninful Name
* Pop Culture Name
* A fancy girly name
* A dangerous/rebel name
* A funny name
* A clever name.
* An intellectual name.
* An obvious name due to the characteristics of your dog (i.e., shorty)
* A whole new never-heard-before term? A morph of characteristcs or names?
PART 2: Let's Talk About Your Chihuahua Name!

Does your dog have any distinguishing physical characteristics? (color, one eye, large single spot on his back, etc.)

Does your chihuahua have distinguishing personality characteristics? Is he or she slow, fast, nervous, like to jump. If you just got your chihuahua, it will take some time for bonding. Therefore, it may take a little bit for you to see the "true colors." Take a day or two to spend time with your chihuahua and bond. Maybe as you are interacting with your dog the perfect chihuahua name will just come naturally.

What will your dog "do." I mean, are you going to carry him or her around all day in a decorator bag, will he travel a lot, or is he going to lie on the couch?

Is there a special situation that led you to getting your chihuahua? Did you save him? Was it due to an extraordinary circumstance? Write that down.
Part 3: Lets Analyze the Data and Find a Chihuahua Name
Look at your paper. Notice that the "You" and "Dog" questions are related. For example, the "You" question 1 describes you and the "Dog" questions 11-12 describe your dog. Are there similarities? Stark differences? Is there something profound or humorous there? Would there be a good name that describes him or her as your little chihuahua sidekick?

Next the "You" question 3 (what do you do) is related to "Dog question 14 (what will your dog do). Is there a funny name or nickname for what your dog would be called if he or she were working with you? Is there an object you work with that has similar physical characteristics as your chihuahua? Would it make a great name?

Review all the "Dog" answers and then look at answers 3-9 (your interests). Are there any connections? For instance is your dog pretty laid back and cool, and one of your favorite characters is Fonzi from Happy Days?

Any promising chihuahua names yet? If not, then lets move on
Go to a thesaurus website to find words with similar definitions. What single word could describe your dog? Excitable? Cool? Spoiled?

Enter these words to find other terms that might make a good name or give you ideas. If you find a good definitive word that sounds lousy as a name, maybe you could morph or change them by adding a vowel to the end like -a, -ia, -ee, -ie, -i, -o, -oo, -u, -y, or -ey to the end. For example "mouse" could be changed to "mousie."

At a popular thesaurus site I entered "jumping" because my dog is like a jumping bean. It came up with "zippy" That's cute, but not my style. I re-entered that word and came up with "sunny." That would be a cute name for my dog and it fits me. Using this method, if your chihuahua is a yowler, you might come up with a name like "Banshee."

If you have a good word but you can't morph it into something decent sounding, then maybe it would sound great in another language. Look up words on translating sites. Maybe those ordinary words sound beautiful in Spanish, Arab, Latin, Hawaiian, Swahili...and would make an awesome chihuahua name. Using "mouse" again, if I put that into a Spanish translator I get "Topo." That does sound cute!

Do you have the perfect chihuahua name now? Great!
If not, then let's dig a little deeper
Now, get a cup of coffee, and let's do a little cruise on the internet using your answer list. Look up some of the favorites you listed. Note any significant names, words, titles, etc., you come across that would make a cute name for your dog and would be in tune with his chihuahua disposition and stature yet still reflect your style.

For example, I had "I Dream of Jeannie" on my list. I entered that into a search engine and started reading some interesting trivia. I was reminded that she had a small disappearing dog named Djinn-Djinn who would constantly chew on Major Nelson's pant cuffs. That would make a very cute chihuahua name! Don't you think?

Finally, while doing your brainstorming and research, try to keep in mind both of your personalities, the physical characteristics of your chihuahua, and the type of name you said you were looking for. If you are a big tough guy and feel your dog is pretty formidable, you might name your chihuahua "Ruckus" or "Chaos." If you are into bands, you might like the name "Roadie."

Hopefully you will have a couple ideas now, or even have your chihuahua named.

If not, keep thinking, making connections, and surfing. You might ask your family and friends for ideas. Maybe they see something you are missing.

Want to know what I named my dogs? I have two mutt dogs that look like they walked out of a western movie. I also live very close to the Mexican-American border. I named them "Cisco" and "Pancho" as in the old Cisco Kid series and the "Cisco Kid" song: "Cisco drink whiskey, Pancho drink some wine. Aye, yay, yay, yay..."

My sister has half a million chihuahuas (no, just up to seven!) and they all have great names that fit them perfectly. It takes a little thought to come up with the perfect names, but it is well worth the effort!

Here is a short list of possible chihuahua names I came up with using my own list and the reasons for possibly picking them:

Raffi (a children's entertainer)
Moby (singer and literary character)
Ajax (I don't know, sounds cute)
Lyric (musically-oriented)
Kuma (Japanese for bear)
Frodo (a famous hobbit - Lord of the Rings)
Halfling (another name for a hobbit)
Pilot (on the road a lot)
Justice (like the law)
Tinkerbelle (girlie girl name)
Rosko (a Dukes of Hazzard fan)
Winks - Winkie (a famous dog and dog winks)
Hawkeye (TV and literature)
Scribble (the dog is all over the place)
Ringo (Beatles fan)
Chaos (self-explanatory)
Yoda (Star Wars fan)
Tribble (Star Trek fan)
Pinkie (A Happy Day's Character)
Cha-Ka (Character from the old Land of the Lost)
Pebbles (Flintstones)
Sheba (dog thinks she's a queen)
Starbuck (coffee or sailing)
Topo (Spanish for mouse)
Ginger & Mary Ann (Gilligan's Island)
