Glossolalia, or Speaking in tongues... when sane, rational people look at these shenanigans... where someone who looks like they are about to swallow their tongues spouting gibberish, and the "divine" interpreter who "speaks" for God... how is someone with sound mind and judgement supposed to take this seriously? when you mix in the laying on of hands, hellfire and brimstone, intolerance, childhood indoctrination (rebel groups in Africa do this with child soldiers...I'm just saying!...)etc, why are you not surprised that many feel out and out nausea having to hear so many of you babble on about the second coming? The big guy said he was coming in his apostles lifetime... he needs to check his clock... he's about two thousand years too late! if I were an apostle, I'd be a little bit pissed at being stood up for my date!

Why would speaking in tongues be insane? Isnt it more sane to think that God as a loving Father would want His children to be able to speak other languages to communicate the message of His Gospel to other of His Children?

The Lord didnt say He would be back in the life time of the original Apostles. Otherwise Paul wouldn't have stated that an Apostasy had to occur. You shouldn't try to limit the time table God has to work in. He knows the end from the beginning and can finish his work up just as easily now or centuries from now as he could have then.

First off God is never late its that we are too impatient. Second speaking in tongues is in my religion the initial physical evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. It is well recorded in the scriptures. An interesting story on the gibberish note. It says other tongues not necessarily heavenly tongues. A missions team was working in a Latin American country and during the alter call a women who had a disease shouted at the top of her lunges, "In three days I shall be healed" when the pastor talked to the women she said she did not know the English language. So it doesn't always have to be what you call "gibberish."

In Jesus Name

Speaking in tongue is a true gift from God, He gave it to the apostles to travel to foreign lands to spread the word. It's not gibberish of course, that's just silly nonsense. It's speaking a foreign language without studying it, for an actual reason. God does not give us stupid gifts like speaking gibberish.

As for the rebel groups in African, they're not christians, they're muslim extremists.

The "Big Guy" didn't say He was coming in their life times. Anyone of that time understood the "second coming" would be after the tribulation, which couldn't happen until Israel become a nation again, which didn't happen until 1948. It's during that generation the tribulation is suppose to start, and a biblical generation is 70 years, giving us until 2018 for things to heat up. At the time the prophecy was given, Israel was still a nation, so part of the prophecy was that it would cease to be one first, so they knew perfectly well it couldn't happen in their life times. It's people who don't understand biblical prophecy who misinterpreted the "in their life times" nonsense.

He didn't say which apostles....I am an apostle of Christ any believer is...I go to a church where they speak in tongues, I personally do not have that gift, which comes from the holy spirit...It doesn't really affect me when I am around it, but it does say in the Bible that you are really not supposed to speak in tongues, without someone who has the gift of tongues interpretation being there (in a public situation)...Plus Christians that just randomly speak in tongues in public for the sake of doing it our out of line with God's word..It is a prayer language, that is supposed to be used when we are in prayer with the Lord...my pastor and I just talked about this today.

Most Christians do not practice Glossolalia, or laying on of hands, or faith healing. You are taking the practice of a minority (namely, Pentecostals & Charismatics), and trying to use this practice to discredit Christianity as a whole.

BTW, what your beliefs about whether Glossolalia is still in effect in today's world has no bearing on one's interpretation of end times prophecies.

You are committing the logical fallacy of trying to tie together two unrelated subjects.

BTW, I don't believe that Jesus meant that he was going to physically return during the original apostles' lifetime. there are different theories as to how to interpret end time prophecies.

What's the question, exactly? From what I know, speaking in tongues is meant to be the holy spirit, or holy ghost speaking through a person. It occurs when a believer is feeling overwhelmed with the presence of G-d. I didn't understand the rest of your question/rant. Anyway, many denominations frown upon speaking in tongues, based on certain biblical passages, while others find passages which encourage it.

Yes sir. An Assembly of God church is a home to the worst nut-jobs in the Christian religion.

They Roll around on the floor speaking gibberish while the pastor screams hate and bigotry from the pulpit. I attended one for over a year.

Yeah its not easy to digest, leading up to being 30 years old , I thought I was spiritual and then .....my rational sane mind changed...and ran away with its self and I had no control over my thoughts, I had Voices come out of no where saying "Fu33king God" "Jehovah's a Cu2t" "Mary's a Cu1t too" "Now your Fu55ed you just Blasphemed God". Not fun ...then as I was sleep deprived from this, Demons come to me whilst Praying Crying out for God, and said "I'll give you Tongues, just say yes" so I said "Yes, just leave me alone" within 2 weeks I was speaking in Chinese and I knew what I was saying.
