God is not love. God is an *imaginary* source of imaginary love. Personally, I think that people want and need love, and if they're not getting it by looking around, they're going to start looking UP.

why wouldnt he? why aint he? ._. perhaps you should use those questions as well for a broad spectrum?
God is whatever you will him to be really every one how ever minute the detail is has a different perspective of God yet we all can agree on common perspectives. ironic isnt it? or one might say faith.
:) spose thats why..so maybe what you really want to ask is who is God? what does God mean to you? or at all?
its a nice topic to discuss however I do not think we should compare ourselves among ourselves as I believe it says that is unwise..it would be like pointing at each star and pointing out the little differences - yet they are all beautiful and alike. each has their own place - the sun - the moon - the earth. etc..
:)
to be able to change mankinds emotions or way of thought would take more than mere questions but answers and change. ironically enough that is against man's nature *change*...perhaps that is where we get confused in our faith.
we are afraid of change is what i mean in summary :)
so the real question is
Science Or God?
both are technological tools funny how we aren't so smart that we still use the bible as a tool yet we use science in the same exact manner. Both have solved problems as well as caused war - science has caused war just as much as people try to accuse the bible of it? why dont you see any one question that? hmm? men love to use the bible as a tool when they wish but true faith is trusting without ANY doubt or usery!

The phrase God is Love is frequently repeated. Above its stated love is a verb not a noun. Prehaps god is a transcendent verb. Honestly when you get down to brass tacks theists are basically the emotional people of the world. Fearful of death and the future and the scary empty places inside god the omnipotent teddy bear rocks them to sleep at night.

The ability to have "religious" experiences does not have to be necessary for it to evolve, especially since it's a function of the brain, and the brain is quite plastic.
A trait does not have to be beneficial to be preserved. It merely must not be deleterious.
Kudos to the person who mentioned Daneil Dennett's "Breaking the Spell."

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Love is not an emotion it is an action. Do not equate this with romantic love. Or is Love God?

"god", as a concept, probably isn't necessary.
But religion clearly pays for itself in some biological and/or cultural way.
There's an interesting book called "breaking the spell" that considers this topic. Well worth your time.
