Hey Leigha M,
Good you didn't get tattoos when you were going through all those hard times. I have seen teens get fierybloodydeathskullreckless tattoos, only to regret getting them when they gold older and found out who they really were. "freedom from my past and being a free spirit". I always wanted tats, but waited until I felt I truly knew myself before getting them. I finally got an absolutely beautiful Apsara (Buddhist Angel) on my right arm in Thailand ten years ago. And three years ago I got a tat on my left arm of Guan Yin (Chinese Goddess of compassion). I doubt I will get anymore, as they are symmetrical (both on my upper arms). I didn't get them to show off or be cool. Like you, I got them as personal symbols of my freedom. Also, they do represent a tradional om my fathers side (Irish) that goes back to the Druids. At least that's what my grandfather said. He had one on each upper arm, my father has one on each upper arm. Even if it isn't from Druid lineage, it is a family tradition nevertheless. My father feels honored that I carry that torch, and my nephews are already considering what tats they will get. They are a little older than you and (like you), know better than to get something they will regret. The will wait until they find something that means something to them. I think you are really open minded and I'm glad to hear that you got through those tough times. Your tats will be a constant reminder to your triumphs and successes. Whenever I am going through a hard time, I look at my tats and am remined that I have the strength to make it through, I always make it through. Peace, Randall

I like your idea on the angel wings above the ankle, but why not consider on your back instead? A tattoo is just a decoration of art that you can actually choose not to display and only for your own knowledge. I had a tattoo on my right arm and I am glad it did it there rather than elsewhere as when I go for out, it will not be on display for others to comment and criticize. Just my 2 cents worth...

The only suggestion I have is that you consider carefully what you have tattooed on any area of your body that is visible to the public. As you get older, this may be an issue and could leave you wishing that they were no longer there. It is expensive to have them removed. You could get the angel wing tattoos (either separately or as one set of wings) on your hip or just slightly lower where they would be less visible. You would still have the representation of freedom from the past and being a free spirit. In a less conspicuous place it would be a private message to yourself and still bring you a sense of inner peace.

Well I know what you are going thru, your past sounds like mine. I have 3 tattoos now. Let me tell you, they are addictive. I want another one with Angel wings and a halo around the would grandmother in some cool font. Where I live, you have to be 18 to get one, though, even if you have a parent or guardian with you. Good Luck.

I think that your idea is great, and your reasons for it are great. I personally got a tattoo in memory/honoring my Grandmother, with words underneath it that she lived by, and every time I see it, it brings me joy. About your pics, how about sharing with the tattoo artist what you shared here, and asking him/her to draw up something for you? That's what I did with mine. That way, you get both a unique and meaningful tattoo, that is unique only for you. Good luck!

Good for you on getting your life together. I think the angel wings would look better together. One on it's own, to me, would look unfinished, that is just my opinion though. If you go to a good place for your tattoo, the artist should be able to help you and draw something up.

Don't pick it off the wall. sit down with the tattoo guy and have him draw one for you. rember it will be with you a long time so don't settel or rush it. Always ask to see his folder of work he has done, and make sure the shop is clean. Look up "tattoo flash" ideas.
