No bigger than 9 pounds! In the AK website, it says no bigger than 6 lbs. I have three chihuahuas: the youngest boy is 5 lbs and he is 1 year. The other two girls are 4 and 5 lb and are 4 years old. My grandmother's girl chi is about 8 lbs and is 7 years and my sisters boy is 4.5 lbs and he is 2 years.

It all depends on the bloodline and what type you have. I have a 3 month old Chihuahua that weighs 3.5 pounds right now and won't be more than 5pounds full grown. Check with the people you got it from and ask how big the parents are and how much the pup weighed at birth. Once you know how much the weight was at birth you can go and look at a web site they have for determining the weight full grown. It's under Chihuahua weight and growth chart.

It depends on the dog, really.
My aunt has a pure bred Chihuahua and he is about 14 lbs and not even a year old yet.
On the other hand, I have a 9-month-old Chihuahua/Toy Terrier mix and she weighs about 7 lbs. We don't know what she's mixed with, though, so a pure bred could weigh more or less.
I also had another Chihuahua mix who weighed about 5 lbs full grown. Again, no clue what she was mixed with.

Hope this somewhat helps!

Just saw the pics. That is a concerning size for a small dog. Can you be absolutley sure there is no possible way the dog is sneaking food? There is either something medically wrong, or he is getting food from somewhere. I would talk to your vet asap. We have a 22lb doxi mix. He get 3/4 cups of food a day...and in the winter we change it to the weight control formula. Your Chi should be eating no more than our dog. 1/4 in the morning, 1/4 in the afternoon, and 1/4 at night. (you can feed 1/2 cup at night if you can't due the midday feeding) Their tummies are very small! Feed him alone and don't leave any food out when he is free in the house. You can also cut more calories, but give the same amout of food by making each 1/4 cup half dog food, half cool cooked green beans. Dogs love it. But get this under control soon...he does not look healthy at all.

Most all of the answers provided are correct. Good rule of thumb, if you cannot feel the ribs of the dog it is to FAT. If when viewed from above the abdomen does not tapper in then the dog is heavy. 1-2 pounds on a 5 pound dog is a lot percent wise. 1 pound is 10 to 25 % that is 10 - 25 pounds per 100 pounds of human weight!

it depends on teh breeder and what they use.
According to AKC for show not over 6 pound.
I have seen them full grown at 1 3/4 pounds and I saw one that I know for sure was a purebred but a terrible throw back and weighed 32 pound.
You don't go back to the parents but teh grand parents and great grandparents.
I've read some of your answers and there is only two types of chihuahuas and that is short hair or long hair. There is no such thing as teacup they are usually runts or just teh samller ones. it's like people some people are only about 4 feetand others can be nearly 7 feet tall but we are all humans not mini's ( yes there are dwarfs but no disrespect to them but a genetic fault.

4-6 pounds is the AKC standard. They can easily get up to 12 pounds but it is out of standard. Much more than that and they are either overfed, very poorly bred or perhaps not pure bred.

AKC standard says under 6lbs, but many weigh more. They just don;t conform to standard so they should not be bred.

I have 4 pure bred Chihuahua's I have one full grown at 2.4lbs. One full grown at 4.8lbs. One full grown at 9lbs and a 5 month old pup at 2.8lbs.
