Do you mean the kind of floater that you see when looking at things?
It is due to an obstruction inside the eye that interferes with light. Most often due to a thickening of the gel inside the eye. Less often a floater is due to bleeding inside the eye or a retinal detachment. These last two are serious and potentially blinding; for this reason you should have an eye exam with an eye doctor if you notice a new floater. You cannot clean the floater off, as it is inside the eye.

judy is very corret in instructing you to get to an optician NOW. it boils down to: you could develop blindness.
