Go one step further. Take the ticket back to the office you bought it from and fill out a claim form. You can get about 80% of the value back if the ticket isn't used.

Good for you. I never get a free ride, as you need a ticket to get through the barriers at my station, but my friend and I have a rule that if our train is delayed by more than five minutes (which happens four days out of five), we sit in first class. If we get caught, our argument is going to be that we deserve compensation for the late running of the train. But we've never been caught yet!

Here on CalTrain, it's a proof-of-payment system. You HAVE to have your ticket ON you or you pay a $250 fine.
I am sickened by the respondents who APPLAUD your criminal actions. If I saw you doing it on MY train I would report you to the Conductor and the Transit Police.
