you stop looking at diet as something to "go on" and realize that to get permanent results you have to make permanent changes in your lifestyle (diet and exercise)
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

There is no specific diet that will make you lose weight and stay slim forever. What you need to change is your behavior. Make it a habit to cut out ALL white bread, potatoes and rice, and eat more low fat chicken, fruits, vegatables and BROWN rice or breads. Try moving at least 30 minutes three times a week and drink plenty of water. Try lifting weights too. Diets always fail in the long run, it is good eating and exercising habits that will give you the best results in the long run!

The best diet for sustainable weight loss is low carb, high fiber, low sodium diet. Low carb so no excess starch can convert to fat tissues, low sodium so there is little chance to add "water weight" and high fiber, to promote a healthy digestive system. Of course, this should be done with an exercise routine so that the body is toned and not saggy due to weight loss

A good way to loose weight is to use a calorie counter watch

Keep to a 1,200 food intake

Add 1,200 plus 3,500 (equals one pound of fat) ...and that is the total amount of calories you need to burn each day. Its actually really easy once you start watching the numbers and it doesn't seem like work or exercise. Its just a matter of changing the way you think about loosing weight.

I use this method when i gain some pounds. The first time I did this I went from 168 to 127

The way to maintain your weight is by eating your weight X 15. So if you weigh 100 pounds, if you eat 100 X15= 1500 calories a day, assuming you're doing a normal amount of exercise, you will maintain. :)
