why is it not a road traffic offence to use satnav or tom tom while driving. it must be more dangerous to watch a small screen while driving than using a mobile phone.
if it's ok to watch a small screan while driving why don't we install DVD players on the dashboard I for one find driving boring and would be glad of something to watch while driving

i dont know what satnav or tom tom are but im guessing they are gps? these are meant to help find your way around. im pretty sure all have audio built in so you dont have to watch the screen constantly. glancing at them to insure you are turning the right way is what its meant for. like glancing at your mirrors or blind spots.
dvd players in the vehicle anywhere where the driver can watch it are dangerous. the driver must be completely alert while driving to ensure the saftey of the passengers and themselves.
cell phones are mucht eh same way. if you have to hold a phone with one hand or even against your shoulder, you may see something coming at you but you may not be able to properly respond in time.
this si why it is illegal to drive and talk on the phone at the same time, and also why they came out with ear buds for cell phones, so that you can drive with both hands and keep your eyes on the road!

In Queensland Australia the fine for using mobile phone/cell phone, is $225 and has been an offence for a number of years now. I read in the paper the other day that in another State in Australia, a motorist was even fined for using Bluetooth on his phone.

the police talk on phones radios and their laptop computer installed in their cars. who are they to tell you can't talk on your phone. It's only a crime if you can't drive worth a crap to begin with and endanger other people on the road . Than it's reckless driving. The cell phone laws are for generating revenue.
