Oh, don't use olive oil! I tried that once, and it made the cake taste disgusting. :-P

Olive oil does have a particular flavor all it's own and it depends on what grade of oil it is as to how much of that flavor you get. I happen to cook with olive oil and like it. One nice thing about it is that it doesn't go bad with age like other oils can.
It wouldn't hurt to just invest in some other oil if it bothers you. You might consider just using it and seeing how you like it. You can use less of it if you also substitute some applesauce for part of it. This of course gives even a different flavor. If you haven't used the recipe before, try it the way it's written, then try variations later and see how you like them.

I would only use "vegetable" oil (canola or corn)... I wouldn't use Peanut Oil or Olive Oil.
My ex-wife once baked a cake with olive-oil... another reason she's my ex !! That cake had a horrible taste !!

Follow the cake recipe to the exact wording. Every store has vegetable oil. Good luck.

Don't use olive oil! It makes the cake taste gross! You don't have to add oil to cake mixes - I just add an extra egg instead.

olive oil has a very heavy flavor, so I'd suggest you go buy a light tasting oil, like vegetable, sunflower, canola, or corn oil.

You could try some melted veg. shortening. My mom did this all the time, her cakes were fine. Let it cool some.
