The best low-budget way is to screw a screw (?) into the cork and then pull on the screw with pliers to remove the cork. Enjoy!

Usually when the cork crumbles under the corkscrew you have a dry cork from storing the wine vertically, allowing the cork to dry out. Another common problem is a poorly designed corkscrew. Look for a corkscrew that has a sharp point and that isn't too tight. What I mean by "tight" is you want a screw that has coils that are spaced at least 1/4". This helps prevent breaking the cork. Another option is to use a cork "puller" that uses two slightly concave metal tines that you slide in around the cork. As you pull, the tines will grab the cork and you'll not damage it. Happy sipping!

dude, you have GOT to be able to find a cheap cork opener. try a little harder! that is really the best and almost the only way to open a wine bottle. or--you can get the kind of wine bottles that don't have corks at all and just a top that comes right off. a lot of even the nicer types of wine are doing that nowadays. ask the salesperson at wherever you buy wine.

I'm almost afraid to ask what kind of wine you are drinking if you can't spring for a wine opener. But cheap wine comes in the screwcap jugs, or in boxes with spigots. Cheers.

Go look in a thrift store less than a dollar.

If a corkscrew is too expensive, you probably just need to unscrew the cap.
