If you are going to chew gum, sugarless is the way to go, however, 3 packs a day is excessive. You can cause your tempromandibular joint (where your lower jaw hinges to your upper jaw) to "wear out". Just try cutting back to maybe one pack! And to Ray ray C, you cannot create an extra layer of enamel by any means. You can strengthen the enamel you have (with fluoride) but you cannot "grow" more.

The good thing about gum chewing is it stimulates saliva which will counter-act the acids produced by plaque. There have been studies showing that gum chewing after eating may be beneficial. On the other hand, excessive gum chewing can negatively affect the TMJ, and cause jaw soreness.
My suggestion would be to cut back, and use Trident White. This gum contains Recaldent which is bio-available calcium and phosphate which can help to strengthen the teeth.

All the calories aside, your stomach will be suffering.
When you chew, the stomach produces the acidic part of the bile that breaks down food.
If chewing gum, you don't end up swllowing food which will leave your stomach with too much bile.
Your stomach can't tell the difference between a gum chew and a food chew.
You could end up with stomach ulsers or other problems.

Yes, it is extremely unhealthy for you! Even though it is less than 5 calories, it adds up. And even though it's sugar free, the chemicals used to replace the sugar can mess up your digestion system. I suggest lowering your chewing of this gum. Try chewing on something else instead. It's actually said that chewing on a carrot for a long time can help strengthen your jaw, and create an extra layer of enamel to protect you teeth. Good luck!
