Don't take your cell phone they are just going to give you a yellow envelope and have you put the sim card and battery in it and seal if as for the rest of the phone they'll tell you to pack it with the rest of the stuff your not allowed to have. You going to need to bring at leat 5 pairs of civilian clothing a pair of shoes, underwear, socks. Bring a toothbrush, tooth paste, a comb, a shaver, shaving cream ( once you get in your required to shave everyday and you'll get a hair cut as well ) Bring stamps, paper, and envelopes as well as pencils and pens a calander would be good to keep track of things something small and it would fit in your locker, Bring you wallet with your identification any thing with a picture and current address social secruity card bring $ 50 dollars. You'll get a pair of brand new running shoes provided by the Army ( there ugly ) and if you wear glasses or contact lenses you will be provided a pair of glasses by the Army. There really ugly and big there like bottle cap glasses. The Army calls them BCG's or rumor has it birth control glasses it keeps the guys from looking at the girls and vise versa. You'll start at reception you'll get your uniforms boots and PT. Reception is generally a week than you'll move on to basic and start at week 0 there they will give you a smart card $ 200.00 - $ 300.00 and you'll go to the PX and buy what you didn't bring towels ( Brown ) if you didn't bring shampoo and conditoner you can buy it there soap, stamps, another duffle bag more under wear spandex shorts to wear under you Pt shorts. Don't take any more clothes than the ones your wearing, if you think you'll all be strolling around in civilain clothes, you are wrong. They'll issue you a couple of sets of pt uniforms the mourning after you get there, and you'll wear those the few days befor you get issued the rest of your uniforms. Don't take anything not on the packing list, it'll just get locked up, and you take the risk of getting it stolen. Everything you need, you'll rather be issued, or get to buy at the px within the first day or two of arriving.

I went through in 2002 and it only took 2 days to get uniforms. They will take you to the store there to get your supplies, shoes, and whaterver else. Remember, whatever you take you have to carry. I would recommend 3 underwear, 3 socks, 1 pair of blue jeans, and 3 shirts. The rest you will get there
I think the recruiter is lying to you about the cell phone but if you do take it and they don't allow it then don't get caught with it. Take a phone card for sure
Also remember the quickest way to get through basic is to graduate. Don't wimp out 3 days into reception you could be there for months while the rest of your class is on their way

You should be given a packing list with more than just those items on it. My husbands list had towels, wash clothes, flip-flops, nail clippers, allot more underwear and new, pad locks, and much much more. You can take mostly anything you want, if they dont want you to have it they'll lock it up in a room, and you will be given it back after you graduate. I would suggest taking more clothes because once you go to AIT you get weekends off and you can wear civilian clothes. Hope that helps!

well, I went to boot camp for the Coast Guard about 7 years ago. I know it's not the army, but still military. They give you eveything you need. Actually you buy it. They take it out of your first few pay checks. Weclome to working for big brother. The first week we just wore sweats that they gave us. The first day they take everything you brought and lock it up in the building, and you don't see it again until you graduate. Anything you bring will just be extra weight that you have to carry around until you get there

Anything you take will be placed in storage if it doesn't meet the criteria list of authorized items...just because you may be able to take a phone doesn't mean you will be allowed to carry it and use it freely. I would guess quite the contrary. Most everything you need at Basic training will either be provided or you will be made to purchase at the PX/BX, so that every conforms to the requirements.

Just pack light, after uniform issue all your civies are packed up and you won't see them again till basic is complete. Take basic showering and toilette articles. You will be taken to a PX and given a portion of your first check to purchase the things you really need, in fact., you'll be given a list of what to buy LOL Enjoy it, you'll always remember it fondly later in life, good luck to you.

I'm ex- air force and they'll issue you everything you need from toothpaste to boots. >Pack light< because whatever you pack in for basic you gotta pack out when you go to AIT, then you gotta pack it out again when you get to your MOB (Main Operating Base), then you're not issued but a foot locker in the barracks and if you have a lot of crap you'll wind up throwing it out to make space for your GI issued clothes. You're not going on vacation! I wouldn't even take a cell ph. as you won't have time to use it, and it might even get "lost". . God Bless and Good Luck and hang tight!

I went to basic 22 years ago. I brought one small suitcase of civilian clothes which I did not see until the day I graduated basic. I think the only thing I was allowed to keep was my shower kit, everything else was issued...

you really don't need to bring anything. All clothing etc that you wear, is boxed up and you can either send it home or donate it to charity. I haven't heard of anyone being able to bring a cell phone to basic.
