Hi. I think anyone that is open to having animals in their home and provide lots of love & great care will do just as well with dogs or cats. Since you are open & asking this question, I believe its just a matter of spending some quality with your new "fur-kid." Cats are extremely loving & very intelligent. The one quality that is outstanding (in my opinion) is they do want their own independence and pups are always around. I have 4 cats & 4 shelties....all 8 fur kids are equally loved and yes cats & dogs live perfectly together.
I would suggest getting a kitten or be around a kitten and see how curious they are and how quickly they become attached to you...just like puppies. Both need TLC & lots of love...and both will give you tons of love & entertainment for years to come.
Good luck in your new endevor....wishing you all the best.

Usually it is men that don't like cats. I think they see them as being a girlish or sissy pet, because they are often portrayed that way.
I have always loved the special qualities of each. What most dog lovers like about dogs is their loyalty, that they are easy to train and they always love you. Very admirable qualities in a dog or a person.
IMost people who said they didn't like cats have never gotten to know one. There are some bad cats, but most are good. Some are outstanding. Each cat is an individual.
Most people, men especially, who have learned to love cats have usually had a male cat and have come to identify with it's Independence, it's strength, it's self confidence, and it's cleverness. A cat is how we are able to "pet the mighty tiger".
If you are trying to convince someone you know to accept a cat or cats, mention the good qualities about cats. If you have a cat, try not to push it on them. Maybe play with it while they are around, let them be around it and it may win their heart by it's charm alone.

Try a cat breed that is more "dog like" in personality - I have a Russian Gray (named Little Delicious, or LD for short - my daughter chose the name). She goes in and out through the dog door, likes to sit on you and lick you like a dog, and will even play fetch with a cat toy or a crumpled up piece of paper. She lays on her back and lets you scratch her tummy like a dog, too, and my kids have even taken her outside on a harness and leash for walks (sometimes these turn into more of a "drag" than a "walk," but not always....). My husband has never been a "cat person," but he likes LD!!
Research cat breeds on line and see if you can find a type with personality traits that appeal to the dog lover, then look for a breeder of that breed of cat.
Hope this helps!

I think it's just a matter of being open to the fact that cats are really really interesting and intelligent creatures, with certain similiarties to dogs as far as personality can go, but at the same time able to have more independence than a dog has.
I have both dogs and cats, and consider myself more of a cat person...I love all their different personalites and strange quirks.

Personally, I think that it's hard NOT to love cats. If you wish to become a "cat lover", here are some things you could do.
Get a cat of your own, or if you can't, go to a friend or family member's house who owns a cat. Spending time with a furry feline friend will teach you to love them. Always stay positive, and don't let one mishap with a cat wreck your love for them. Play with them, spend time with them.... just show yourself how fun and lovable cats can really be!

I used to be a dog person, but i once had this girl-friend (Donna) who showed me how cool cats really are.
Mostly it was a matter of understanding why cats do what they do.
Before that, I thought cats were these stuck-up little monsters that enjoyed attacking you for no other reason than spite.

Yes.
I never really liked cats all that much, but when I married my husband he came equipped with 2 cats. (hubby is a cat person) The older cat has almost no use for people at all. Simon on the other hand is entertaining (esp. when given cat nip), loving and will chase the dot from the laser pointer for hours.

I have been raised with dogs in my house all the time. When I was brought home from the hospital I was welcomed by 4 yorkies. I just never really liked dogs. I hated when they peed in the house. Its nasty and nobody wants to deal with it but we have to anyway. I always just thought of them as gross animals.
I would rather cats way more than dogs.

I love both dogs and cats but I am defintiley more of a cat person. Several of my friends did not like cats until I educated them, now they think they're pretty cool.
+ You can't force anybody to love cats but you can inform them about cat myths and facts that may contribute to their dislike of cats.
+ Many people who dislike cats had a bad experience. Introduce them to an awesome cat. Inform them on warning signs that indicates a cat wants to be left alone.
+ Some Dog people believe that cats are standoffish and are only using us to provide them food. Meanwhile, dogs constantly seek human approval. Inform them that cats do seek affection from humans just to show love, whether it's by sitting in your lap or a simple nudge. Independence and standoffish can be confused. Cats are more independent than dogs.
Other great things about cats
-Cats can help lower blood pressure.
-Cats are independent: with adequate food, water, and litter, you can leave them alone for a couple of days.
-Cats are highly adaptable many ferals or "wild" cats live independently with little to no human contact as well as many domestic cats live from big mansions to small apartments
-Cats require little to know house training because they usually are litter trained before they are weaned.
-Cats are strong, they may be small but they are agile. They are very flexible and can withstand minor bumps. In addition, they can live 18 years or more.
-Cats are intelligent. They may not sit or roll over for you but they are very aware of things.
