I will never again support this has-been actor with my hard earned cash after his insulting remarks, being a comedian means that you do not have to resort to this, but I guess Williams was showing his true colors.

RE:
Catholics should we boycott Robin Williams movie about the priest after his comments against the Church?

I am Catholic and won't be seeing this movie.
I won't be seeing this movie because it looks stupid.
Not even that dude from The Office, who is usually funny, can save this movie.

The problem with Robin Williams' comments is that he is over-generalizing an entire group of people. If he did that to anyone else he would be in serious public trouble.
There are, what, like 40,000 priest in this country and something like less than 2% of them had anything to do with the scandal. The figures are comparable to any population's instances of pedophilia, which occurs mostly in heterosexual married men, and most of the cases in the scandal did not involve pre-pubescent children (the definition of pedophilia). The comments also overlook the fact that the same problems and issues exist in Protestant ministers and other groups involving children.

I do not plan on seeing the movie

Last night on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno," comedian Robin Williams plugged his upcoming movie, "License to Wed." In the film, Williams plays a Protestant minister who forces an engaged couple to go through a grueling marriage preparatory course. But last night Williams went off on Catholic priests, painting them as pedophiles.

Williams pretended to be playing a game where the pedophile is hidden under a cup, suggesting that this was an image of the Church's attitude towards dealing with "pedophile" priests. "Here we go. Find the priest, find the pedophile. Find the priest, find the pedophile. Here you go right now. Move 'em around, move 'em around. Oh, you found the pedophile."

Just had to say - I am very proud of my fellow Catholics here, and in total agreement.

"Isaiah Washington lashes out at one gay person in private, and he is banished from 'Grey's Anatomy.' Robin Williams lashes out against all priests in public, and he suffers no consequence," said Donahue. "To top it off, Williams suggests that most molesting priests are pedophiles, when in fact they are homosexuals. But to make a joke about gay priests could get him into trouble."

"One more thing," Donahue continued, "in an interview with MoviesOnline, Robin Williams recently said that 'you can't poke fun at certain religions,' noting that 'we just made major fun of the Catholic Church but hey, they don't blow you up.' So not only is Williams a bigot and a liar, he's a coward. No wonder he's so well received in Tinseltown."

That wasn't the first time that he's shown his anti-Catholic bias, although it was certainly one of the more obnoxious set of comments.

Personally, I have no intention of ever helping to put another dime in that man's pocket. . .don't insult my faith and then expect me to subsidize your movies.

Edit:

Here is the URL for an article which discusses Williams' remarks about Catholicism:

Sorry, but that's plain old prejudice on his part, not humor.

Some of you are correct about being able to laugh about things and not take things too seriously.

However, that being said, Robin Williams made some uncalled for, disgusting comments and I for one will not be supporting any of his future work.

Referring to ALL priests as pedophiles and making light of it ...referring to the Holy Sacrament of Reconciliation as if it was some kind of pornographic dialogue to get priests aroused...these things are unacceptable and not funny in the least.

Mr. Williams is a bigot, and sadly, many find it tolerable.

well I know I won't be seeing it, after reading those comments of his! This guy needs to retire already, he's pathetic. Not only because he has to resort to insulting a religion to get attention, I also don't find him funny anymore. But I think that calling for a boycott of it will only be asking for more criticisms you know?

He isn't catholic, he is Lutheran. I intend to see the movie, it looks funny. I've seen him do that joke, its not funny but its not as offensive as Mel Gibson's anti-jew rants. A lot of people say things against the church, if we boycott them all we wouldn't be able to shop.

and for the record, its not his movie- he is just in it, i can bet other people in the movie are catholic
