co-sleeping can be safe, you need to remove all excess pillows and bedding, and make sure there is no gap at the to and sides of the bed. Do some reseasch to find out more!
Shop at trhift stores and re-sale shops, most baby clothes get used so little they are in good shape, and cost $ 0.25 -2.00, much less than they do new. Diapers will be your bigfest expense, but the cheap brands are just as good as the expensive ones. You will have to buy a carseat new, you can never know if a used one was in a car accident or not. But a convertable seat, a baby will outgrow an infant carrier seat in a few months, and its a waste of money. Ask around, see if anyone has things you can borrow, like a swing, stroller ect. And have a big baby shower!!

Don't sleep with an infant. Sleeping with a newborn can be deadly. You can roll over on the baby and smother or crush the baby especially if you are over tired. Buy a used bassinet.
Must haves are diapers; plastic pants & pins if you use cloth diapers; bibs; baby wipes; rash cream, baby powder; shampoo, & lotion; Onesies; sleepers; caps; booties or socks; undershirts with snaps; sweaters; day time clothes and a jacket (later on); receiving blankets; soft baby wash cloths & towels; sheets for the bassinet; bottles & nipples; formula; bottle sterilizer.
A car seat is a big must; check with your local police dept. Ours has a program that donates seats to low income mothers.
If you can afford it, a soft baby carrier to hold the baby close to you and a carriage are important. A crib and stroller are necessary as the baby grows.
All hospitals send you home with a gift box with samples and coupons. Babies R Us has good buys, and you can join the frequent buyers club and earn rewards toward discounts of store merchandise. Marshall's and TJ Max stores, that have baby depts., have inexpensive clothing.
Many hospitals also have a course for pregnant moms about baby care, and it's usually free. Prenatal care is so important, ask about a local clinic that is free or low cost unless you have insurance.
Sign up for free coupons on the web. Parents magazine, free in the OBY/GYN waiting room, has coupons, too.
Ask friends and relatives if they have items you can borrow. My friends and I all were pregnant within a three year time frame, and we swapped clothes frequently.
Thrift shops have good bargains on baby clothes. If you have a baby shower, list the most critical items you will need.
Good luck to you.

First and foremost NO it is never safe for baby to sleep in the bed with you, no matter how good of a mommy you are you could still roll over on them, a pillow could fall on thier face, or they could get wedged in between the matress and the wall. By allowing your baby in bed with you you are greatly increasing your risks of SIDS! PLEASE do NOT let that baby sleep in your bed! EVER!
If you want to kill two birds with one stone because you REALLY do not have the money, buy a pack and play. The baby can sleep in the basinet attachment when it is little, and then you can have him sleep in the play pen itself if you still do not have the money for a crib at that time. These also come with a changing table attachment. So thats 4 things your getting out of it. I use mine all the time, just as the playpen when I am mopping or showering so he can not run off or get hurt. This will be SOOO much safer for the baby to sleep in than having him in the bed with you!
Here is a basic list of other things you may need.
Layette Needs
4 - 6 baby washcloths
4-5 bodysuits
4-5 infant t-shirts (these are good to have before the umbilical cord falls off, so baby's cord isn't smushed)
3 gowns
1-2 baby hats
2 pairs of baby mits, newborns like to scratch at their face
3 hooded bath towels
2-3 long sleeve footie rompers
2-3 onesies
4-5 pairs of socks and booties
3-4 pairs of pull on pants
4 receiving blankets or swaddle blankets
1 sweater or jacket
1 pair soft baby shoes
0-6 Months
Baby Bed (bassinet, co-sleeper, play yard, and/or crib)
Bedding
Basic midweight stroller or travel system
Bath Tub for Baby
Bottles
Bouncer Seat
Breast Pump
Breastfeeding Pillow
Carrier and/or Sling
Diapers (cloth & disposable)
Diaper Bag
Diaper Pail
Health & Baby Care Items
High Chair
Layette
Lightweight Stroller
Monitor
Nursing Bras
Nursing Tops
Play Mat and/or Baby Gym
Rear-Facing Car Seat
Swing and/or Baby Jumper
Toys
Some you can do without.. IE Breast pump and diaper pail.. But you are going to need alot of the things on that list.
Have a baby shower and register at target or Wal Mart. If family and friends are willing to help it will make a big difference.
Also concider registering for WIC and Food Stamps. And get pregnancy Medicaid. The WIC will cover you while you are pregnant and you child up to 5 years old. The Medicaid will expire 2 months after birth for you but you have the option to carry it on to baby afterwards. Good Luck!

For help with finding resources, etc, talk to your local United Way. If you need help with medical stuff, Planned Parenthood does free or very low cost prenatal care.
And absolutely DO NOT sleep with the baby in the bed! I work in a 911 call center and you have no idea how many calls we get a year for injured/dead babies that parents rolled over on. Get a bassinet and put it next to the bed!!

In addition to all of the other answers: check out your local newspaper. People are always selling baby items and it is much cheaper. Check out WIC, too. Nursing is a great thing to do - it's a special bond only between you and your baby, immunity, nutrition, and it's less expensive than formula! And, please do NOT sleep with your baby!!
Congratulations to you! There is a lot of help out there - sometimes you just have to ask.
