Ankle weights can be great but only if used properly. Only use them for exercises that don't involve impact like flutter kicks. Strapping on ankle weights and going for a jog would be a big negative. The localized extra weight could potentially damage ligaments or lead to hairline stress fractures. Also, the weight is something your body isn't accustomed to which will promote improper running form to compensate for the added weight.

Not to be negative but ankle weights slowly but surely tear the ligaments in your legs. Thats what I was told.
