Read all of it. The world needs more atheists/agnostics, and nothing will get you there faster than reading the Bible.

ok..If you have not read the bible in the past here is how you should start.

Read the 4 gospels, Matthew, Mark Luke and John First.
Also Acts of the Apostles. By doing this you will gain the entire perspective of why Jesus came into this world and why He should be worshiped.

For a history lesson, (so you can understand how it all started), Read Genesis and Exodus. Deuteronomy is into the laws that God gave, and Leviticus and Numbers as well, but all three of those books can be hard reading for someone who is new to reading the bible.

to get a deeper understanding of the Chrsitian "walk" for today's men and women, read the rest of the New Testament. It explains many questions you will have and will resolve some issues as well.

Now, I am NOT saying you should read it all in one sitting. You should take a little time each day and read some. Let it sink in, think about it, and then move on to the next chapter(s).

I recommend you read maybe 2-5 chapters a day, depending upon your questions, and your reading ability. But please I dont want you to overdo it and then become frustrated and stop reading. So do what is comfortable for you, but also be consistent each and every day. Even if its only one chapter. Thats a good start.

By reading the bible, you will gain greater insight to God's word, and His love for us. Please do read, who knows what things will suddenly spring up in your mind. What knowledge you will gain, and what spiritual growth you will experience.

Let me know how things go with this. God Bless You.

If you are going to start reading the Bible, first time, you might be best off to start with the Gospels; Matthew Mark, Luke and John. These books are the very accounts of Jesus from the IMmaculate conception to His death and Resurrection.

You will find that in these books of the Bible, much of the chapters or even passages serve you with spiritual guidance for a more admirable chararcter and model of behavior. The stories in these accounts serve as analogies and moral inspirations for us to consider when making decsions and conducting ourselves in the world.

You will also find great moments of peaceful reflection that will bring you peace and hope. Keep a steady routine of reading the Bible each day, perhaps 1 or 2 pages per day. If you give God 5 minutes to learn what He expects from us, you will become the very person that He expects out of us.

God bless you always

If you are looking to understand the life and ministry of Jesus. I would say the book of John. If you are looking for a book that is full of life application the whole Bible is good for that but I would suggest the book of Psalms and the book of Proverbs. Ecclesiastes is a good book about the ways of man. If you are looking for salvation you will find it in any of the 4 Gospels Matt., Mark, Luke, John. I hope this helps you some.

Read the whole book of Daniel. A lot of it coincides with the book of Revelation. Also a favorite bible verso of mine is Matthew 11:28. Because no matter where we are in life that one fits every problem. God Bless.

You may find the book of Proverbs interesting.

Or the Sermon on the Mount in the book of Matthew chapters 5-7

A personal favorite of mine is Psalm 83. I highly recommend taking a look at that Psalm. :)

the OT has a lot of that. specifically the first five books.
there's a lot of "when people are given things easy, they want more and become lazy", "people take things for granted too often" and "no matter how much tough love you give, they're better for it in the end" lessons you can learn. you especially learn how patient God is...

I'm wondering why christians always suggest others to read the new Testament before the Old one ? Because of the shamefull stories of OT ? Stories about the messengers of god drinkin' alchol n sleepin' with their daughters ? or drinkin' n gettin' naked in the tent ... ? or terrible stories of bloodshed in the book of Deuteronomy ?
