I am sorry you feel this way. I personally never really put much into the subject and I would hazard a guess that many of others have not either. Thanks for bringing the topic to our attention. I already bag all my trash, but I am not sure if my trash cans have good sealed lids and I never really thought about washing out the can, but I suppose the garden hose would work quite nicely. I will try to do better in those respects. It is not so much that we hate, but more that you guys do your job so well that many of us never have to think about our trash and therefore don't. Thanks again for bringing this matter to our attention.

I hope this helps. Not everyone in America hates you. Not everyone in America hates trash men, sanitation engineers, what every you call it. I helped out a man that had his own trash business. I didn't mind it the summer time was rough. the winter time was cold. We all have a job to do no one is less important than the other. In peoples eyes the ceo's of big companies are more important or doctors. The facts are that we need everyone doing there job to work well as a country. If we didn't have people to do the things that others can't or wouldn't do then this would be a stinky, trashy, ugly place to live.

I sympathize with you because it is a dirty job, but your question is based on a faulty premise.
First of all, you haven't talked to everybody in America, so how can you justify generalizing that way.
Secondly, have you spoken to every trash collector to know they feel the same way you do? I know several who don't.
Fortunately for you, many municipalities are starting to enforce proper trash management and recycling standards, and giving trash collectors more discretion to leave bags or other stuff that is not sealed in a proper container. But the bottom line is that it is a dirty job, and you have chosen to find work in that profession. So until you are handcuffed to the truck and forced to collect our trash, I think you just have to take the bad with the good.
Peace.

Sorry you feel this way, but I have never said to myself, man I really hate them garbage men.. I think ill rip open this bag and stick it in the can or Im going to leave the lid off so rain water can get it in...
Man you picked your job, same way I picked mine, if you dont like it I would try to find something alittle better, but your going to have the same consideration from people anywhere you go.. I also work 10- 12 hours a day, and guess what they always want more out of you.. Its a job if you work for someone else your not appreciated, I thought everone knew this.. But i see they dont.. Well when i get off work I will find the time to clean out my trash cans :)... Goodluck

I'm assuming you work for the sanitation department. Firstly I don't hate you because I don't know you. I bag my trash and wash out all aluminum cans every time I go through one. I try to respect everyone, no matter who you are unless you pissed me off. The people that don't respect you probably don't know what you do for a living. By the way, even though this isn't relevant to this question I'm only sixteen year old Asian male.xD..

If you are a garbage man, and you don't like garbage, then quit you whiner.
Also, why it is that driving a truck with a mechanical armk that does all the work that used to be manual, still pays more than 10 dollars an hour is beyond me.
Seems that my tax dollars bought the automated equipment, and the pay scale of garbagemen should be closer to that of a 9 dollar an hour forklift driver.(Actually the forklift driver should be paid more. He is moving products, whereas the trash driver, is- hauling trash)

We don't hate you...I try to get my wife and kids to be more considerate when taking out our "refuse"...my community is very specific about our do's and don'ts. I hate seeing a lid that's not completely closed, it only means one thing (in the summer anyway)...MAGGOTS and STINKING...I'm sure you don't like it either, but at least yo get paid to do it.
Signed,
Appreciative
PS
When I was a kid, you guys would often get invited in the backyard for a little "taste" (drink)...that always seemed to get us great service!

where Im from the city gave us trash cans to make it easier on the guys because they just bring it to the truck and the truck empties it itself. Then they decided the trash cans they gave us they would get there money back by making us pay for them and they where mandatory for trash pickup. =)

"This public service announcement has been brought to you by Budweiser."
Seriously, though: I can appreciate that you have a tough job, but please don't assume it's us against you. We make trash, and you've agreed to pick it up... apparently. I don't treat you bad. I don't treat you good, either. You're just like everyone else who is trying to make ends meet.
