Well I have been cooking green beans with beef base and onions all my life! I serve them in my restaurant now. People actually think they are freshly canned beans. I have found that the secret is to cook them for several hours with base and cut up onions with salt and pepper. We throw some bacon bites in for mainly color because the flavor is already there!!! My customers will never know my secret!!!!!!

I have never done them in a broth of any kind, something to try.
Usually with fresh beans I cook them until tender but crunchy. I toss them with Balsamic vinegar and Olive oil, sprinkle with Paprika.
Now for canned green beans. Fry a couple of strips of bacon. Fry the beans in the bacon grease. Crumble the bacon on them. This an old family recipe that my dad came up with during WWII, he did not have the slightest idea how to cook anything. He was forced to take care of me when my mom was in the hospital giving birth to my brother. He liked it and I ate them that way the rest of my life. Even though they are both gone now I still fix beans that way from time to time.

I haven't tried it, but if the ones I'm trying to grow in my garden actually do grow, then perhaps I will!
