I think they are because you will go up to someone and hug them as a form of expression instead of kissing them. I think a hug is better because sometimes you just like to be held, and told it's going to be ok or a hug can be a way of expressing joy. I think a kiss is something intimate that you don't share with just anybody.

Well, hugs are used a lot more than kisses, and is something that family, friends, and boyfriends/girlfriends do, so I'd say it was more popular, but not necessarily better. I mean, do you really remember your "first hug"? I'll have to say that I don't, but I can picture my first kiss as if it happened yesterday (which it didn't by the way =P). Sure, a hug is probably the first step in any relationship, and is considered the first sign of affection, but it's a matter of opinion as to how much meaning it has over a kiss. So anyways, to answer your question, no, I think kisses are better most of the time. Yet there are times where all I want is a hug, and not a kiss. =]

Hugs from almost anyone have a hidden medicinal value (therapeutic) and there much more effective than a kiss...not to mention many of the people you accept a hug from, you'd never want a kiss from...lol.

well hugs can be better if u wanna be really close to the person but kisses can also be better if u really want to show u love that person

Hugs are something you give to anyone regardless of your relationship with them (friends, family, children in your care, pets)
Kisses are reserved for those you want to sleep with (usually). Plus if a man hugs you his intent is unclear when he kisses you his intent is visibly clear.
I prefer hugs they are less manipulative in nature.

Depends on who is hugging you and if they are someone you'd like to kiss or not.
I don't want to kiss everyone I hug, but I am open to hugging everyone I kiss.

sometimes.
theres nothing i enjoy more then being held by someone who i know cares about me. its a good feeling. and hugs usually dont bring about the one thing led to another story as kissing sometimes does....
but on the other hand...kissing is just as fun. sometimes even more

In the context of a relationship? I prefer kissing (if I had to choose).
