Because it's hard for him to tell you that he's dying and that he may never see you again. Death affects us all and it's harder when you know it's gona happen soon. I don't think he wants to hurt you by telling you such a thing. Whatever you do, spend as much time with him as you can, make him proud of you. I know what it's like to lose a father, so take it from me, it's gonna be hard and all you can do is just to use your time wisely with your dad. If you still can't imagine why he won't tell you such a thing, put yourself in his shoes, you had a son about 10-15 years old(don't know how old you are) and then you find out your gonna die next month or something, would you have enough corouge to tell your son such a thing. I don't thinks so. Make sure you have no regrets about your time with him.

Could be many valid reasons:
1-Lack of good-relationship and understanding between you and your father or with in the family. (MAY BE)

2-No one on earth can say he is dying until he is dead. As long as your eyes are open, your other body parts are working and above all YOU HAVE THE WILL TO LIVE..you are not dying.

3-Some guys are born-tough and also they do not see the others suffer because of them...that is why they do keep many thing to within them self.

Let me tell you........your father is a fine hard chap..LOVE HIM RESPECT HIM-MAKE HIM HAPPY IN ANY WAY YOU CAN.

Because he is not dying. Nobody can predict the future and doctors are not always right either, because they go by statistics. Some people with a terminal illness get a bad prognosis and it turns out, that they live a happy long life. Nobody knows for sure.

well i would say that he didn't want to tell you because he is concerned for you. he doesn't want you to constantly think that he is going to die. he probably wants to have people treat him the same way even if he is dying. he doesn't want people to treat him any different. he probably wanted to see all of you all happy and he was probably thinking that breaking the news would leave you in a bad state of mind. i had a family member do basically the same thing and that was their reasoning. hope this helps a little

I think maybe so you will be prepared. Have someone you love especially a parent die is very devastating for a child. You now know so you can be ready both financially and mentally. I'm sure he is just thinking of you in a good way and not doing it to be mean. Cherish every moment you have with him, and never stop telling him how much you love him.

As a parent, one of the worse thoughts is having to tell my childen that. Men are the protectors ans how can he protect you if he's dying? I'm sure he wants to spare you any more heartache you'll have. Cherish the moments you have left. God Bless

He might not say anything for a few reasons, one of those reasons could be to protect you, and maybe so he can live the rest of his life the way he wants, in a dignified way. How did you find out?? He probably wanted to live the rest of his life how he wanted, not by some doctor's plan, or while the family is sitting around his bed looking at him wasting away. Its harsh.

Parents do a lot of different things according to their own beliefs. It's possible that he did not want you to stop living. I mean, I love my Dad so much that it would probably send me into an extreme depressive state and that would directly affect the rest of the family. Please cherish this time with him.

i am so sorry to hear that about your father. i will pray for your whole family daily.
i think your father did not want you to worry about him. he wanted to just enjoy the days he has left on this earth with those he loves the most.
just be there for him and tell him and show him that you love him very much and will miss him.
give your dad a hug for me and tell him he is in our heart and prayers.be strong.
