Well we have all heard the USA is the worst Co2 polluter but in 5 years or 10 years or 20 or 50... depends on what you read and when.

Well looks like China is way ahead of schedule...
So what now?
Kyoto gave China and other delveloping countries a pass. the USA reduced Co2 emissions last year if only a small amount.
Was anything substantial settled on at G8?

No, nothing much was settled at the G8 conference. Bush basically undermined the efforts to get all the G8 countries to agree to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050.

China is on the verge of surpassing the US in total greenhouse gas emissions, but they're still far behind in per capita emissions. They're also still a developing country, and developed countries should be expected to lead the way in greenhouse gas reductions.

Massive pollution:
When I first came to Beijing in 2003 the air was terrible, smoking cars were everywhere and I was clamoring for a breath of fresh air at times. Came back in 2004 and the air was remarkably cleaner and few smoking cars. The reason, China adopted Euro car emission standards and this year will adopt the strictest Euro standards. China still has a long way to go, but they are well aware of the problems and are making remarkable headway in fixing those problems, often going outside the country for advice and help. The environment is a hot topic in the news and teaching the children.

China is also ahead of the US in people to emit CO2, too. So per capita emissions are much, much lower than the US'. Which means that if China were to comply with the Kyoto Treaty its people would have to live in near poverty conditions. Which is why China and other developing nations are exempt from signing the treaty.

Maybe Bush will have reason to cap CO2 emissions. Just to pick on China.

And China also told the world to piss up a rope about reducing it too. Plus you don't hear a single peep from those a$$holes in Washington that take campaign money from companies with interests in China.

Just wait till China finishes industrializing their entire country, you think they emit carbon now? Of course the Blame America for Everything crowd will have a tailored excuse for that too.

G8 was just a bunch of other countries looking for the US to foot their bills...

So, the Bush administration WISELY didn't sign the agreement.

*************

Now that the US is no longer the #1 world polluter... can we just STFU about global warming and work on real problems?

And that #1 ranking doesn't include all the additional CO2 belched by the additional 700 MILLION people they have inside their borders.

Sure. It was proved beypnd a shadow of a doubt (if anyone had any lingering questions in their minds) that George "Dubya" Bush is a complete waste of a good chimpanzee.
