definitely not... sorry, I feel your pain, but you can't just make that decision all on your own. It's got to be a joint decision. Especially if "he's not the type to give orders" then that means that this must really matter to him so I say don't do it until you can get him to say yes. If he loves you, then I think he will eventually give in b/c he sees how important it is to you & if he can't tell, show him.

This is something you have to look at before getting married. If you love animals THAT much then you should be with somebody that is a animal lover too because it's only going to be far to the pet. If you want a dog, go a head but make sure he loves it and cares for it just as much as you do other wise why waste the time and then end up getting rid of the dog later. That's just mean and ignorant because the poor dog gets attached to the both of you, so just make sure that's something you want to do. Good luck and I hope you make the right choice! ....Maybe sit down and have a serious talk with your husband too, tell him how much you want one and if he doesn't understand give him attitude! =)

While in agreement with the others, it's the dog who may end up in the shelter, not the husband.
Please talk more first. Perhaps a cat may be a good pet to start with and then later you can get an "addition"
Wanting the puppie NOW, is usually the beginning of a disaster for the dog.

Okay.. from first hand expirence. You need to talk with your husband about this. Tell the reasons why you want one. When he is late from work or on a business trip you feel secure with having a dog. He can go out hunting or golfing etc. knowing that you are protected by someone you trust.

Good luck..

You are the woman of the house, like my Grandma. You should make the decision. Let your husband know that you want another dog badly. He is as ornery as my father who prevented me and my mother from moving to North Carolina; and he doesn't even live with us! Remind him you were the one that took care of your recently deceased pet and he didn't. He should be ashamed of himself for not helping with feeding, training, playing, and walking that dog. Your husband needs to help take care of the new puppy, if you get one. Sorry about your loss. It is best if both of you wait to get a pet until you are ready. Some families need months to mourn over a family pet before getting another one. Condolences to you.

Tell him that it means a lot to you. Ask him why he doesn't want a dog. When I wanted a dog when I was a teenager, my parents told me that they didn't want to take care of it. I wrote them a contract saying I would do all of the work and a few weeks later I got a puppy. Try doing that, it worked for me!

you're the primary care giver, you're taking care of the pup... feeding, cleaning, playing.

If he doesnt care to give any input other than saying no without a good reason, then get a puppy! It's your life and your time, money and energy. Not his.

I would suggest a lab or golden retriever. :-D
Good Luck!

It is his home too! I can forsee the puppy being used as ammunition in an ongoing domestic dispute and that is not fair to any animal.
