Hi - I'm moving out to the West LA area in August. I'm thinking of looking at some apartments in Hawthorne. Is this a nice area? Why or why not?

Wow etpilot doesn't what he is talking about. Hawthorne is about 5-6 miles from the ocean. We have some of the best air quality because of the ocean breezes. But on the other hand, crime is up in this area, but there are some really nice areas of Hawthorne to live. When you look for an apt. walk around the neighborhood and make sure it is what you would want to live in. Don't just rent any place. Look around real good.

Ever since the Beach Boys left Hawthorne High ..... There are plenty of apartments and lots of nice areas of Hawthorne. We all hear the bad stories about it and its infamous neighboring cities. I would take a quick look at police reports or neighborhood reports from the Hawthorne P.D. Maybe even, depending on proximity to freeways and your work, spend some weekend hours in your neighborhood to be listening for aircraft and city noises.

OOOH- NO WAY! Hawthorne has the worst air quality of any community in the LA area because of its proximity to LAX and Wilmington (lots of gasoline refineries, and the Port of Los Angeles with its diesel ships that spew all kinds of hydrocarbons). The crime rate is worse than in West LA, too.
I'd stay in West LA, if I was you.

i individually stay in Torrance, CA its an outstanding risk-free area, predominately eastern in this area. there are various residences off of Hawthorne, Sepulveda, many city residences off Maple St, that i'm relatively confident are value-useful. community is great and risk-free, our regulation enforcement have particularly means hungry yet i think it works out for the appropriate. i'd say Torrance PO, is our worst area and a few areas o EST ( East area Torrance ) i'd propose possibly next to Del Amo Mall,. Hawthrone/Sepulveda there are some great residences alongside that street. * style of Hidden from the top street*

Yea a very nice area the closer you stay towards Aviation.. Wiseburn is an unincorporated area. Which is really upscale actually. But anything east of Prairie not good.. Like every city has its good and bad,

It's not the BEST area to live in but its not the worse. You are fairly close to LAX so the air quality is probably not the best. I went to high school there--it was ok.

Unfortunately, Hawthorne does not have a good reputation.

Not advisable, unless you're a gang-banger.
