It was last painted when I was about 10 years old. I'm 13 now, and I've changed so much since then. I just don't really feel proper in a bright orange room anymore. Opinions?

When it comes down to it, it's your parent's house so their say is final. However, if you want to bring them over to your side of the idea, you might suggest ways that you could earn money to pay for the paint (If you do it yourself, and average room takes 2 gallons of paint @approximately $25/gallon, plus roller covers and drop cloths and masking tape.) OR ask if it is a project you could plan to do together so that they can teach you how to do it.

I'm sure they'd want to tone down the bright orange. Offer to help paint or pay for the paint and suggest a nice color.

I wish my kid were of your opinion on this! He has bland, old, white walls and likes them. Ugh. I even said he could paint his walls green (in tribute to a fave band, Green Day), but he's too lazy or something.
Orange IS pretty annoying, so just tell them you would like to "tone down" your room, and it'd MAKE YOU STUDY BETTER!!! (heh-heh)...Pick out a "neutral color" (like beige) or one that you and your parents agree on...then tell them you'll either let them show you how to do it (if they know) or get instructions (paint stores or online sites show you how).
Also point out that, if they ever go to sell the place, orange rooms are a real turn-off!

yes, painting your room is a very inexpensive way to express your self. I agree, get rid of the bright orange.

Well tell your parents how you feel you've matured and now you really would like to change your room to a more grown up room, mostly talk to your mom about this because of course dads dont want to see their lil' girl growing up so quickly, i dont see why they would have a problem with it =)

Discuss it with them. Make sure you are ready to do the job in a neat manner. One reason they may balk at you doing it is that they don't want to have to re-do it or finish what you started. Good luck.

It's YOUR room. I feel that you should be able to do anything you want to it that's not permanently damaging.
