I have a Am Bulldog/Staffy mix, so of course I get the typical "pit bull" comments. My favorite comment is when I have my dog in PetSmart with his Gentle Leader on and some ignorant mother grabs her kids and whispers, "See, he bites. That's why he has a muzzle on."
First of all, it clearly is not a muzzle, when my dog's mouth is hanging open and he's eating something off the floor. Secondly, do people really think I would bring my dangerous, vicious, biting dog to hang out in the gd PetSmart, with all the kids and other pets around?? Honestly.
I also get the standard "Is he a pit bull?" and then "Does he bite?". Yes, he does. That's why I bring him into public. Sigh.
To address this comment, I resorted to buying a T-shirt that says "Yes, he is a pit bull" on the front and "Yes, he is friendly" on the back. It seems to have helped a little.

Hope she didn't mean it rudely cause I understand what she is saying. Eeyore looks "unloved" also but he isn't. She probably meant he looked sad and didn't know how to put it. If you were walking your dog, anyone with half a brain knows it isn't unloved. People who don't love their dogs don't walk them. Just take what people say with a grain of salt and keep on loving that sad-eyed pooch. I love them too. Course I only have 7 dogs. LOL

That is pretty rude! I'd've told her where to go.
I don't have a dog currently, but some of the things people say about my friend's dogs drive me crazy. Basically if you're got a rottweiler or any large dog people get their dogs out the way when you come by and act like you've got some kind of dangerous beast with you. One friend with a staffy was told by some random stranger 'that dog should be muzzled at all times!' It's plain ignorance and I guess we should ignore the stupid, but it winds me up.

I have a bloodhound, and he's got the same droopy, sad look as a basset... Since he was a puppy, I've gotten "he looks old" "he's so ugly that he's cute" etc... My dad never calls him by his name, it's always Old Dumb or retard or Dopey... I'll admit, he isn't the most well-trained dog, but he's so lovable that I don't care!

I have an American Staffordshire Terrier, one of the breeds lumped into the "pitbull" category by ignorant media and lawmakers... so we've heard them all. Evil, dangerous, mean, people crossing their dogs to the other side of the street, pulling children up off the sidewalk when we walk past. He's afraid of his shadow and the wind people... not a danger I assure you.
He's grey in the muzzle and sometimes people call him Old... offensive to him I'm sure. ;)

Don't take this personally. Some people just stick their foot in their mouth.
I prickled when a neighbor called my basset/beagle dumb (he was staring at the gate latch, trying to figure out how to work it with his tongue, which he eventually figured out). I prickled when the same neighbor called my lhasa apso a silly poodle. I think I just don't like my neighbor.

My dog Sophie was once described as "mangy" by a neighbor who doesn't like dogs. Since Sophie is a beautiful blue merle aussie mix, I was very offended by the remark until I remembered he was an *** who didn't know what he was talking about.

My father said the worst thing abot our dog. She's mostly blind, but can see some, has diabetes (on insulin, and it's controlled), and has thyroid problems (she's fine on her medicine). Even with these problems, though, she's the most loving, happy dog you can imagine. Of all things, her favorite game is fetch! And she's so proud of herself when she finds it! But Dad, who's never seen her, said that I didn't want to admit it, but she should be put down. I am diabetic, too, I have thyroid problems, bad eyesight, and I'm epileptic, so I figure she's one up on me.

My elderly Poodle was bitten by a spider, and it wiped out her thyroid. So, she takes a thyroid pill everyday (for the rest of her life). A lot of her hair fell out (a little of it's come back in) and she has black skin that shows where's there is no hair. Many people think I should "put her out of her misery" because "she's SO ugly." grrrrrrrrrr
