especially after breaking up following a long-term relationship, or a divorce/separation after marriage is over? Or if you have never been in a long-term relationship -- what are the upsides to being single?

I can think of a few, here's a couple I'll share with you: I have the whole bed to myself now, except when the kids jump in to be next to me! & I have one less meal to buy at Burger King now, so I'm saving money! You get the idea, etc. Let me hear yours.

.After 20 years of marriage, being single again was the best thing that ever happened to me. He wanted our house immaculate 24/7 but never figured out where the clothes hamper was . He loved withdrawing cash from the ATM and spent money on guns, ammo, fishing gear and camera equipment. Just before he died, I found out we owed over $12,000 to charge accts. He tossed the bills because we couldn't make the payments and knew I'd worry. After he, died I moved into a 800 sq ft mobile home with my two kids. I paid off the charges a little at a time. One of the collectors that called me at work was very helpful. If another agency gave me a hard time, I'd give him their phone # so he could talk to them. After I paid off all charges (and the tax collecter) I felt empowered and free and content and realized I'm really good at being a single mom

I think the best thing is that you have the chance to get to know yourself a lot more in isolation from other influences such as a permanent partner. You can analyse stuff and decide what you did wrong so far and what you want from you and life from now on and proceede accordingly. It's a good but tough life lesson but it helps a lot of with self development. It also makes you more aware of people and things and events around you. It should be a useful awakening.
Wish you the best in your new stage.

Not having to pay double of course. not having to give her money for shopping. Eating whatever I want instead of eating the healthy way. Can work out without her telling me just to come straight home. I don't have to answer to anyone but myself. I can leave the air conditioner on 68 instead of 78. I can watch ESPN. I can stop watching One Tree Hill. I think I have 100 more.

I sleep more peacefully now that I am not being abused by my ex wife. I bought the MLB extra innings package. I eat better because my wife was a crappy cook.
