I have a interesting question..how is it possible that I can drink at least a pot of coffee and have no side effects from it, as a matter of fact, it makes me fall asleep as if it were a sedative?

It could be all about the addiction and tolerance, needing more per use to get the same results that you got in the past.
It may be the habits you have with caffeine, as in some folks really use caffeine containing drinks to relax. If you really want to wake up, try your coffee iced, or try it with a scoop of ice cream. Don't make it part of a winding-down routine and keep its use to the times when you want to be alert.
It may be the amount of energy you have/what you expect the caffeine to pull you out of. If you are dealing with a sleep deficit and you are not well rested, then drinking coffee in the dark grog of the morning may not be enough. If you are stressed out about final exams and trying to stay up studying, coffee can't help you much. That's more of a mental exhaustion (as well as physical) and then you get wired up and stressed out and more overwhelmed and tired with use of caffeine.
There is another thing, physiological. In some people their response to stimulants is being brought DOWN by them instead of UP. It could be allergy or ADHD, sometimes its just a person's individual chemistry.

It doesn't really work for me either until I started to really get into shooting. I always drank coke and other stuff before I went to shoot and never thought about it. then one day I realized that caffeine makes my hands shake a lot and I can't really concentrate on what I am doing. All of my shots were way off and I could only shoot maybe one or two magazines in the beginning the whole day. I can tell you it might not make you awake but I bet if you tried to do something that required a lot of concentration and you using small movements or lining something up you would probably find it a lot harder to do.

Your system is used it to for one thing. For another, if you use sugar in your coffee, thats whats making you sleep, gauranteed. I had that same issue, and once I stopped putting sugar in my coffee, it made me bounce off the walls! Now I can drink a pot and pretty much feel normal, but I can definately tell a difference when I don't have any.

I have ADD and caffeine puts me to sleep. One time my husband gave me a caffeine pill and I fell asleep. It was super crazy. I also use Coffee for my son because it mellows him out.

Some people are really sensitive to caffeine. Some aren't. Everyone's bodies react a little differently to everything!

Are you a caffeine addict? If so, you might be immune to a pot of coffee and need even more than that to produce the side effects. If not, I have no clue.

I know a girl that works at a fuel station with the same damn problem. She told me that caffeine put her to sleep.
For some people, it doesn't work.

You build up a resistance to a drug after prolonged exposure. Caffeine usually only has a real effect on people who don't consume it regularly.

You might have ADD. My son has ADHD and I was told that if i didn't have his medicine handy to give him coffee because it counteracts the hyperactivity.
It works for people with ADD just hte opposite as it does for people without ADD.
