Enlil sent the flood as a way to reduce the human population (this time by killing all of them). Only Enki saved the human race, and that required cheating on a promise to Enlil not to reveal the whole "world destruction" plan.
The story in the Bible is a copy of a copy of that story.

I would think that regret is the feeling we can most understand...but that doesn't mean God is sorry he created us. God knew that Adam and Eve would sin. God knew that he would use a flood to give mankind a new start.
God could wipe us all out at any time and it would be perfect justice. But, he loves us. He can see the whole thing...he knows the end of the story. So, there are things that God has a perspective on, that we do not. He is privy to all the information.
That's where faith comes in. We have faith that God is good and that all things will work together for those that love him.

God saw the sons of God (fallen angels) come into the daughters of men and have children called the Nephilim. These days of Noah had every man polluted by blood mixture, but only Noah was perfect in his generation. We know Noah wasn't perfect but Noah's blood was perfect.
Jesus said "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark." The pollution of man was the fallen angels mixing with the human women and having evil offsprings.
You have a new age movement of spiritist channeling the dead spirits, but they are reaching the fallen angels and evil spirits. The dead cannot do anything much less talk. From our current knowledge we see the obvious acceleration of lawlessness; increase of apostasy; the socio-religious climate preparing for the one world church; potential atomic annihilation, population explosion; pollution, the sea and the waves do roar; the earthquakes increase as well as pestilence and famines. The gospel of the Kingdom is going throughout the world on satellite. The love of many is growing cold. There are many false prophets and many false doctrines in the world. The spirit of the antichrist shouts heavily on this website.

First we have to realize according to the KJV, God was a merciful god and loved his people. He was not showing regret when he brought the flood.
What happen was during the period Noah lived in, Angels who left their original position and proper dwelling place had married women and produced offspring, men of fame whipping up the violence filling the earth until every inclination of the thoughts of man's heart was only bad all the time and the earth became ruined because all the flesh had ruined its way on the earth.

God always warn us earth dwellers not to judge Him COMPLETELY on man’s standards because we actually see very little of what goes on behind the scenes. For instance, God has voluntarily submitted Himself to “men” and “angels” to be examined as a just God. Your question has more to do with ANGELIC witnesses than us humans. God has given man and angels certain rights, that includes Satan. Yes Satan has the right to exist and act! God has briefed the angels on how this creation event is going to play out in time. Since angels can’t see into the future the way that God can, God has to let the events play out in real time for a WITNESS. Our creator truly loves His creation that’s why he mourns having to cause the flood._
It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things into which angels long to look._ 1 Peter 1:12 (New American Standard Bible)

No - God was communicating to us in a way what we understand (called anthropopathia) - and merely illustrating His dissatification with man. God had created man perfect and with the purpose of glorifying God and enjoy Him. Since mankind was not serving his God given purpose their sinful lives were vanity.

No, He was showing His power, ability, and His wonderous might. God would have taken us all out and not have left Noah's family if He regreted making us. And God can do no wrong, therefore we were not mistakes.

There's a song that states, "every night, I talk to God, but he don't say nothing back." Well, "God," in my opinion a fairytale character, didn't seem to care much. He procrastinated, then killed everyone when the problem came to be too big.

Did you deliberatly skip certain parts of the Bible well here is the part that you missed
God’s Grief over Humankind’s Wickedness
6:1 When humankind1 began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born2 to them,3 6:2 the sons of God4 saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful. Thus they took wives for themselves from any they chose. 6:3 So the Lord said, “My spirit will not remain in5 humankind indefinitely,6 since7 they8 are mortal.9 They10 will remain for 120 more years.”11
6:4 The Nephilim12 were on the earth in those days (and also after this)13 when the sons of God were having sexual relations with14 the daughters of humankind, who gave birth to their children.15 They were the mighty heroes16 of old, the famous men.17
6:5 But the Lord saw18 that the wickedness of humankind had become great on the earth. Every inclination19 of the thoughts20 of their minds21 was only evil22 all the time.23 6:6 The Lord regretted24 that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was highly offended.25 6:7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – everything from humankind to animals,26 including creatures that move on the ground and birds of the air, for I regret that I have made them.”
6:8 But27 Noah found favor28 in the sight of29 the Lord.
The Judgment of the Flood
6:9 This is the account of Noah.30
Noah was a godly man; he was blameless31
among his contemporaries.32 He33 walked with34 God. 6:10 Noah had35 three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
6:11 The earth was ruined36 in the sight of37 God; the earth was filled with violence.38 6:12 God saw the earth, and indeed39 it was ruined,40 for all living creatures41 on the earth were sinful.42 6:13 So God said43 to Noah, “I have decided that all living creatures must die,44 for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Now I am about to destroy45 them and the earth. 6:14 Make46 for yourself an ark of cypress47 wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover48 it with pitch inside and out. 6:15 This is how you should make it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. 6:16 Make a roof for the ark and finish it, leaving 18 inches from the top. Put a door in the side of the ark, and make lower, middle, and upper decks. 6:17 I am about to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy from under the sky all the living creatures that have the breath of life in them. Everything that is on the earth will die, 6:18 but I will confirm my covenant with you. You will enter the ark – you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 6:19 You must bring into the ark two of every kind of living creature from all flesh,58 male and female, to keep them alive with you. 6:20 Of the birds after their kinds, and of the cattle after their kinds, and of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you so you can keep them alive. 6:21 And you must take for yourself every kind of food that is eaten, and gather it together. It will be food for you and for them.
6:22 And Noah did all that God commanded him – he did indeed.
May God Bless you

The short answer is: the bible was poorly written and edited at a time where most people weren't able to read in the first place -- thus, there were very few people in a position to expose the absurdities.
Now, literacy is rampant; but if they were to go back and try to fix the errors, it would be obvious they're trying to cover their @sses; so the Christians are forced to continue defending the indefensible....
