a short circuit means the least or lesser level of resistance in the path of a current. a short circuit can be a malfunction where the current travels through a lesser resistance part which is not desired . If u are taking a circuits lab, u would bridge two nodes, one where the current enters and the other where the current leaves by a wire, so that the current would not have to travel across the resistor,it would travel via the wire, whereas the resistance of the wire would be close to negligible, the resistance of the typical resistor would be far greater, so the current automatically travels through the wire instead.

it is a unintended circuit (pathway) that allows electricity to travel directly from a power source and return without passing through an intended applicator such as a lightbulb, motor, etc.

they have basically covered the definition well but a short circuit usually result in an exess of current flow and some arcing or sparking

They have covered it well but it is good to think of putting a fuse so if the short happens it will just blow the fuse and not burn every thing up.
