well, quite frankly, because it would be silly to have an "anti-religous" section in Y!A. and i think the best reason is to be able to challenge peoples beliefs. In about 80% of the questions i've read that have nothing to do with religion whatsoever, some airheaded christian just throws in a "jesus loves you" to make sure that you're still remembering why devout christians are stereotyped as shoving religion down your throat. (and i don't mean this to be disrespectful of all christians. not ALL of them are airheads. i have many many many friends who are very religious. i just don't see why people think it's only the athiests raising hell.)
but in all honesty i believe it's because they want to challenge your views. test you and see if you're an ignorant bible waving idiot or an enlightened person who believes in their chosen religion firmly enough and can still be open-minded enough to see other peoples points of view. and besides, what's more interesting than peoples belief systems?.....or at least that's my take on things.

Why wouldn't your boyfriend discuss religion? Not caring what people believe is what starts wars.
Why do Christians post questions just to make the non-believers mad? It is a two-way street. Some people just genuinely want to learn about religion. People (atheists, as the question is directed at them) come in here to discuss what they think about certain things. When someone asks, "what is the meaning of life" a Christian has a different answer than a Buddhist, than an atheist, than a Hindi.
They want to learn about other religions. They're open-minded.
Isn't that what a forum is all about anyway? Asking stuff that you're curious about? Curiosity is curiosity, regardless of religion or race or gender or anything.
Personally, if I wanted to learn about how Republicans feel on a certain law or bill, I would go to a forum made by (or participated in by, like this one) Republicans and ask.
Besides, even though atheism isn't a religion, the fact is heavily debated and it ends up put together with religion, anyway, so people who want to get into our brains use this forum as a resource to pick them, too. We come here to answer YOUR questions.

Not everyone who is anti-religion is Atheist or Agnostic. And people who are anti religion, Atheist or Agnostic can all still have a spiritual life. You must be in high school to have such a narrow small view of the world. I personally believe in God, believe in Christ but would NEVER be a part of the christian religion which in my opinion is a farce that has nothing to do with Jesus. I have a very spiritual life despite my lack of religion. I tend to believe that religion is more of a hinderence to spiritual growth than it is a help. Why are you even in here? If you cannot consider another persons experience, then you are not a very Spiritual person.

Atheist or not atheist is not a issue. Anti-religious actually is another religious which believe the statisic and are regionally and partially. Such as you find snake in forest and does not mean you can find snake in northpole. In the budhaist sutras which stated all aliyas were according to the situation to teach the people who later on and find it stupid. It was not the same situation to apply on the same apple.
The sutras said; without the senses, there are no world at all. All the universes are bullshit. If there is a creator, who will be the creator created the creator, then come with an arguement of egg first or bird first. We are coming from our own willing. The funny thing is we forget our previous lifes. and some of them are excluding, they still remember their previous lifes and what his mission to come this world. If you want more details, go into budha sutras which tells a lots. You can spend whole life there to study and read.

No offense taken. it is going to not be able to be a faith if: a million) It has no deity and no dogma. 2) It demands no ritual observance of any type, and does not seek for any type of administration over others. 3) It does not threaten nonbelievers with any type of punishment, not to point eternal torture. consequently, atheism does not qualify as a faith. you're over-generalizing. i will not be able to speak for many atheists, yet individually i don't provide 2 hoots what each and each individual believes. some believers carry particular regulations or work together particularly practices that i come across objectionable or downright risky.

remember one thing, many christians go into non-religious boards to give advice or make posts with christian or religious answers. if they can go elsewhere and put in their two cents, others should be able to come in here and put in their two cents. i agree with you that some people are just out to press buttons but they are on both sides. you are implying that it's only those who are not religious or atheist who make such immature posts.
by the way, i wasn't in the religious boards. this question happened to come up randomly.
ohhh, and yes, i'm here to fill that god shaped hole. if i were going to worship a "god", it would probably be the sun. without the sun we wouldn't be here.
and before you say that god made the sun therefore i worship god, think about how this is your ultimate and absolute answer for everything. nothing is ultimate and absolute no matter how much faith you have in it. i mean, faith itself is a belief in something that isn't real.

I'm not an atheist, and I'm not anti-religion, but I am definitely pro-TRUTH, and truth often conflicts with religious beliefs.
As far as why are there atheists in this section, its an open forum - anybody can answer. Also, if you think about it, atheism is the flip side of the religious coin - the other side is for it, atheism is against it, therefore it DOES have a place here, even though others might not think so.
BTW: this question has been asked on this forum over and over and over... move on.

What makes you think that anti religious people don't believe in God Hun? If you aren't up for the criticism why not just join a Christian forum? I was a Christian before you were born but I'm all grown up now. I believe in God not religion.

Answering questions is fun! Did you know that I'm the originator of "If Christians came from Jews, why are there still Jews" in answer to "If people came from monkeys, where are there still monkeys?"
I love religion! It gives me something to do on Sunday morning. I can go into a classroom and everyone will welcome me and ask my name and ask me to come back next week, and I can attempt to sing along with everyone else. Loads of fun! The fun just doesn't end!
Edit: If your boyfriend doesn't care what you believe, why is he your boyfriend? You need a more caring boyfriend!

It's so funny when I read your question because I was reading all of the other questions/responses in this forum and was wondering the same thing! I mean, the Atheists in this forum sure seem to care alot about religious issues! Maybe deep down inside, they really aren't sure what they believe and are just looking for answers. Like they say, we all (even Atheists) have a God shaped hole in our heart. The Atheists are trying to ignore it but it's still there. That's why they have to continually fight against it on this forum.
