I've seen acoustic guitars that have a tail piece to hold the strings and the tension of the strings hold the bridge in place much like a violin. Be sure your guitar is not of this type before you glue anything. See the pictures at this site. http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/Guitar/Setup/Archtop/ArchtopSetup/atsetup.html Is this what your guitar looks like. If so do not glue the bridge.

Take the acoustic guitar to a technician at your local reputable music store, or to a qualified luthier. Do not attempt to reglue the bridge because it may need to be reinforced with a blocking under the top.
It's most important that the bridge be attached at an exact measurement regarding the length of the guitar. To place the bridge inaccurately will cause out-of-tune playing at higher frets.
Paying for this service won't break you. It might cost $20.

Musical instruments are delicate things. Contact a LUTHIER to find out. Make sure you have info for him as to make, model, etc. Guitars need to be glued with special glues. If this guitar is an antique you could ruin it by gluing it back together.

If done incorrectly it WILL affect the sound of the guitar. It needs to be placed in the correct spot, sanded, glued properly etc.
Do take it to a luthier. Unless like previously suggested, you would like to try fixing it for the experience. Then go for it!

Yes. It will affect the sound and the guitar. You need to go to a music store and have htem do it for you. If you put it in the wrong place, your guitar can be permantley damaged.

If it is an old acoustic guitar you probably won't notice a change in the sound if you put it back on decently. Feel free to experiement and learn, it is after all an old guitar you stated.

No it shouldn't, but I would go to someplace like the Guitar Center and get the proper clue so that it doesn't pop off in the middle of playing, you could really get hurt with those metal strings.
