I need to get a job. According to my mom, I need to get a job by next week, or no phone, internet, or car.
Now, I have a boyfriend who I only get to see on the weekends(he lives in Orlando, I live about 2 hours away).
I'm 16, and I know I'm probably going to have to work at least one weekend day.
I usually see him every other weekend. Would I be able to say that usually every other weekend I go out of town to "vist family" or something? Or do you think wherever I end up getting hired won't let me have every other weekend off?
We've been going out for a year and 7 months, and the long distance thing isn't too hard, but it will be when I can only see him for 1 and a half days every other week for the next year until I graduate.
Any thoughts?

If you make excuses about working the weekend right off the bat, you'll never get the job in the first place. Get your priorities straight: School, Money, Boyfriend...in that order. If you don't get a job and make some money, you'll lose your car, phone and internet, and wind up unable to keep in touch with or see your boyfriend, and he'll break up with you because it will be too much hassle.

So get the job and tell your boyfriend that you had to do it. If it means you'll see each other less, then that's just how life is. If he breaks up with you because he can't see you as often, then it was never meant to be. If he understands and works with you to make things work, then he's a keeper.

Maybe he can get a weekend job too so he won't be too bored without you and then he can take you out for a nice dinner when he comes to visit!

Good luck!

If you are going to make enough money to pay for phone, internet and a car, you are going to have to work weekends. I know I would not even hire you if you specified that you could only work every other weekend, there are too many others out there that want to work.

Maybe you can get a job at someplace and work 4 hours an evening and now work any weekends, but I would NOT count on someone hiring you with the conditions you can only work every other weekend.

Hmmmm, let's see. Boy friend or job which means boy friend or phone, internet, car. When you commit to an employer, you are expected to be at work when needed. No excuses saying you're visiting family. Seeing your boyfriend 1 and a half days every other week is the sacrifice you will have to make. I know you don't want to do that, but life will throw hurts at you every once in a while. Why can't he see you more often? And why are you so serious at such a young age? Now is your chance to go out with other boys, to learjn how to relate to the opposite sex and not to just one member of it.

Just my thoughts, but if I had to do it all over again, I would have dated as many as would have gone out with me. Going "steady" at your age limits your life's experiences.

Okay, I think that you should get a job. Take a break from your b/f for a while and earn lots of money. Than you and your boyfriend can each have enough money to go on a "real" vacation time. Plus that can be fun...Luck!

How about a babysitting job for a working mother who needs someone just for after school? Or maybe work in an office after school?

If you're only working part time, and that includes weekend days, I'd be real surprised if they'd let you off every other weekend. Sorry. Welcome to the adult world.
