Your cat needs to go on a diet. He is obese. He could die from heart attack or develop cancer. You need a new caretaker who will follow your directions when you go out of town. Go to the pet store and buy him the overweight cat food, dry only. Science Diet and Iams makes it. Do not feed wet food. Cats really do not need it and it makes them fat and lazy. Start slowly and decrease his food intake until he is eating a small bowl of dry food AM and PM only. This may take a month or so. His weight should decrease and energy increase. Good luck.

Oh dear, the poor kitty, he's overweight and it's probably killing him!! Please take him to the vet or start looking for that good (ridiculously expensive) healthy diet cat food. Don't give him any table food or the "wet" canned food. Just dry diet food. Make sure you have some toys to play with even if he's in the bed; like a string with something on the end of it etc. While he's laying on his back you can play with him to stimulate him. When you start a diet plan with him, his "carnivorous behavior" will kick in and he'll be thirsting to kill something and eat it, so maybe that will get him to be more active.

Tell your friend NOT to feed your cat!!!!! An overweight cat is not a healthy cat. Your vet may want to put your cat on a special cat food, depending on your cat's age.

That's just obscene, no cat should be morbidly obese, it's just wrong on so many levels. Is your friend trying to kill him?
You should definitely find someone else to watch him when you're away.
