I am not the biggest Christian either, but I am loyal to the beliefs of my parents and the values that raised me on based on that religion. I am thankful for all that they have taught me and the love they shared.
I think people are just really frustrated in life and don't know how to deal with all of their anxieties. So they complain at people they feel can't prove what they believe in, hoping that they can make the people feel pitiful about their own lives also.

We are not hateful. We just want the religious to understand that their beliefs are totally irrational and everything that is good about religion (yes we believe that religion can sometimes promote good things) can be promoted and achieved without believing in a supernatural power that is watching over us. We just feel that it is unfair that religion cannot be criticized. Why do we have to respect irrational thought. To use an example from Sam Harris, if I said that I had a diamond the size of a refrigerator buried in my backyard, you may ask why. If I said that it gives me a sense of purpose and meaning, you would not feel that is an adequate answer. The problem here is, when it comes to religion, that is a sufficient enough answer and it is taboo to even question it. The resulting problem is that people that accept this type of reason vote like-minded people into political office that make decisions based on their reasons. The best example of this is stem cell research. Bush will not allow any government funding for one of the most promising medical advancements in our history because of a reason that stems (no pun intended) from religion.

For better understanding, I will copy the definition of 'atheist' from Urban Dictionary:
" 1: atheist
A person who does not believe in a supreme being. Most of these may be classified under the following definitions:
1) Aggressive atheist: attacks other religions and is often intolerant to the follower of other religions. Often brings up the insensitive fact that faith is the "complete acceptance of a God without proof," somewhat equatable to ignorance, which, among other things, is the "complete acceptance of an idea without proof."
2) Passive/Tolerant atheist: does not believe in a supreme being but accepts that others do. Does not usually bring up the above fact unless attacked for being an atheist.
Not to be confused with taoism or confucianism, which are philosphies and do not mention gods or the afterlife. Atheism is a state of nonbelief. One can be a Taoist Atheist, which would be a person who seeks to understand and learn from nature and does not believe in a god.
1) "Hahahaha! You believe in a God! You're one stupid ******!" (Bad way to be an atheist)
2) "You're a Southern Baptist? That's cool. I'm an atheist. Please don't shoot me. I'm not criticizing you... no! STOP! PLEASE! I'M NOT INSULTING YOU!" (Good way to be an atheist... or... maybe not...)"
In other words, atheists aren't all abusive, however I can't answer how anyone is able to not believe in some kind of higher power..

You know, I hear this complaint from both sides of the fence. I saw a "reality" show once, where this Christian woman learned that another woman was an atheist, and she presented her with Psalm 14 (A fool says in his heart "there is no God....") and asked her what she thought of that. Well, duh, sweetie, what do you THINK she thought of it? What an offensive thing to do!
Atheists hate the "superior" attitude some Christians affect toward them. And sometimes they THINK it's an attitude when it's really just concern. After all, our Bible says if they don't believe, they're going to hell, so if you love someone who's an atheist, you worry about that. Anyway, they feel they're being put down, even tho that's not always the intention, and they react, often by being hostile and angry - just as you would if you thought someone was putting you down.
Write it off to a misunderstanding. And if you get that a lot, check yourself to see if you might be coming off with the same attitude that woman did. I can totally understand why the atheist woman let her have it. That was tactless. LOL.
And remember, if we really do follow Jesus, we gotta love 'em even if they are nasty to us. Think how nasty unbelievers were to HIM in his day. You're not putting up with that much, by comparison.
Take care!

I'm not hateful - it takes too much energy to hate anything.
I don't have faith in anything, really, except myself - I only know the full motives of my own mind. I can never tell what someone else is thinking of, really, or if they're fully telling the truth.
Trust doesn't come easily to me (I don't know why; 3 psychiatrists don't know why), but it doesn't make me depressed that I think that when this life is up, its up.

I don't think they are rude and hateful...they just don't believe that there is a God that created us. To say they are rude is to say that anyone who doesn't believe in what you or the majority of society believes is rude and a bunch of smart asses. I am personally a BIG smart *** and I believe in God.

Im not at all depressed or hatefull. Its a belief all in its own. You people choose to believe all that you do. And Atheists chose to believe that its all a bunch of bull. Honestly I think that religion is just something for people to waste their time with. Its another excuse for people to fight. People think that if they follow a religion that anything they do wrong will be forgiven and that its all ok... Well its not, you and only you are responsible for the wrongs that you do and there is no taking them back.

You would be also if you were influenced by satan. And the sad thing about it is they don't know it or don't care.
I pray that one day they will have a experience that will really open their eyes and they will have no choice but to call upon the Lord and be saved.
By the way, did you know there is a christian rapper T-Bone.
He rocks!
God Bless.

atheists hateful?....um.....whens the last time an athiest strapped a bomb around his waiste and blow up a city bus packed with people(in the name of atheism)? or blow up an abortion clinic(in the name of atheism)? or convince hundreds of his followers to kill themselves, and those who didn't he had gunned down(in the name of atheism)?
i didn't think so.
and as far as your inability to commit to any particular religion......what if some horrible event happens and your life on earth ends tonight? aren't you in the same boat as a non-believer? believe what you want to believe, and let everyone else do the same.

Have you EVER had a stranger come up to you and start a conversation by saying: "I'm an Atheist?.." All of a sudden, out of the blue?
I have NEVER had this happen to me, but on many occasions I had somebody come up to me and say: "I'm a Christian..." and then they would start their preprogrammed speech about Jesus, being saved and other nonsense.
Do I have the right to be at least left alone and not have people push their idiotic believes on me?
If you want to live your life being completely brainwashed moron, it's fine with me, but take your religion, go to your church and leave me alone.
