The "why" would be:
(1) Christians who say that are afraid of persecution.
(2) Non-Christians (including those who say they are Christians, but actually deny the central teachings of the Bible about salvation) who say that are trying to justify their own belief, and skate around the hard facts of the judgment to come.
And it isn't "christianity" that is intolerant. It is God himself. This entire universe was created by Him, for His own glory. He will judge all who worship any thing but Himself alone. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." (John 14:6). God has decided, by His own fiat, that the sole access to Himself is through his Son, Jesus.
Now, Christianity is "tolerant" in this sense: God has decided that, to have salvation, man must repent and believe--there is no forced conversion, because true conversion is a complete spiritual transformation of the spirit. It cannot be forced as an external conversion to a creed and lifestyle alone, as with Islam. That is why "Christian" countries--that is, those whose laws are shaped by a more-or-less accurate reflection of the Bible--allow religious freedom. We know that man cannot be forced into true religion, therefore civil liberty is extended to other religions. Catholicism lost this truth--that is why the medieval European period is so filled with persecutions (even of true Christians, such as John Huss and the Bohemians).
See the contrast with countries where Islam is dominant. There, utter force is used against any who would dare to oppose their doctrine.
Our society is having whatever "Christian" facade it once wore removed. The "creed" of the 21st century USA is an echo of the time of the Judges: "every man did what was right in his own eyes". This is trumpeted under "tolerance", "diversity", etc. People are increasingly indignant against any suggestion that anything they choose to believe or do is evil. Therefore, the declarations of God which command obedience to no other ways but His are offensive to them.
Christians who are faint-hearted tend to avoid the possibility of being hated, despised, ridiculed, or even harmed. But there is no way around it. For anyone who believes what the Bible says, all other religions are known to be a spiritual mirage, a road to the lake of fire, mere deceptions meant by the Enemy of mens' souls to keep them from being saved.

How about we were all created equal.
No one person is better than the other.
And, to live by example you must be patient
as Love is patient and love is kind, we are to love
one another as Christ loved you that he died for you.
Whether or not you believe with someone's system of thinking is not relative. Give the gospel to them and let them decide, fine but you cannot judge them, lest you will be judged! You can agree to disagree and still be an example for Christ. Most people don't believe because Christians are so quick to condemn and judge and this is the way it is.
Jesus did not force anyone to believe in him, he did not reject anyone's way of thinking, he merely said his peace and this is how it is and left them to their own free will
which is what we are supposed to do.

Tolerance is merely respecting the freedom of others to believe something different from what you do. Nothing in the concept of "shunning false teachings" requires you to restrict those people's freedom, just that you not take up their beliefs yourself.

Christianity is tolerant about other religions. But in this relationship Satan is the invisible participant among the peoples. And satan is the great deceiver of all mankind through his divide and conquer strategy. Similarly, St PAUL when still not converted said I persecuted the church of GOD because of ignorance and unbelief. On one hand, In the Bible Book of Revelations 1:20-the seven churches in the like of Menorah are all being held in the HAND OF GOD united. Among these seven churches are the ISLAM and JUDAISM which in this grouping belong to the EPHESUS CHURCH. This is so since, in the KORAN the LORD JESUS CHRIST is mentioned with THE HOLY SPIRIT several times and that MOHAMMAD prophesied in the BOOK OF HADITH that THE LORD JESUS CHRIST will come again to teach the whole world Islam which means submission to GOD. Likewise, St PAUL is the apostle to the gentiles meaning to other beliefs and non-believers and preached THE UNITY OF THE FAITH (Bible Ephesian 4:13). Thus, satan is the one who deceives and make peoples intolerant with one another. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD. I'm not disagreeing. Here's some verses to back that up... 1st Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; ~and~ 2nd john vs. 9 - 11 Whosover transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is a partaker of his evil deeds.

You're confusing tolerance with 'acceptance'. They aren't the same thing.
As a christian, you don't have to accept the teachings of Islam, but (in most countries) you do have to tolerate the fact that some other people are muslims.
Does that help?

Anyone who reads I Corinthians or II Corinthians, cannot walk away feeling that god wanted them to be tolerant and loving.
He clearly says to shun unbelievers, cast them out, and to not associate with them

i shun them as in the sense that i dont believe them but i still love my neighbors. i toleratte others because i respect their opinions no matter how wrong they are. "shun" does not mean to be intolerant of or mean to others, just to not believe false things.

there will be revival in India. Christs call would be unfold with the affection that comes interior of. genuine love won't be able to be stopped with the aid of God. the assumption of the trinity is interior of Hinduism already, the all and sundry is only at a loss for words. Hinduism is unique between the international religions in that it has no founder or date of beginning. on an analogous time as maximum important religions derive from new innovations taught with the aid of a charismatic chief, Hinduism is only the religion of the individuals of India, which has steadily developed over 4 thousand years. The origins and authors of its sacred texts are frequently unknown. inspite of the fact that for the period of the present day's Hinduism differs heavily from earlier varieties of Indian faith, Hinduism's roots date back so a tactics as 2000 BC, making it between the oldest surviving religions. through fact of its great age, the early history of Hinduism is .....uncertain.... the main historic writings have yet to be deciphered, so for the earliest classes scholars could place self belief in knowledgeable .....guesses.... in keeping with archaeology and the learn of modern texts. look into the Hindu Puranic literature and look the way it pertains to the Christian Godhead. "Lord ?iva pronounced: My expensive son, I, Lord Brahm? and the different demigods, who rotate interior of this universe under the misunderstanding of our greatness, won't be able to demonstrate any means to compete with the preferrred character of Godhead, for innumerable universes and their inhabitants come into existence and are annihilated with the aid of the easy process the Lord." (Bhagavata Purana 9.4.fifty six) The "false impression"....of our greatness They "won't be able to"... "Compete"... with the "preferrred character of the Godhead" This to me i got here upon thoroughly thrilling.

Little person, I'm thinking you really have no reason to worry that Christianity will suddenly become 'tolerant' of other religions, or much of anything other than rich Republicans and white folks in the gated suburbs.
