The complacency of Christians is Christianity's greatest danger. Here in the West it's very evident, but the persecuted Church is actually spreading the gospel more powerfully because of the persecution. And never in the past 2000 years have Christians been more persecuted than now - even to death. In the West doctrine and practice are being dilluted - watered down - rendered worse than useless - because of secular, post-modernistic influences and the unawareness of indifferent Christians. Millions of Christians don't buy any of that, of course, but they rarely get the public ear. They quietly get on with walking the walk but the world prefers to ignore them.
But the good news is that there's plenty passion and conviction here on this Yahoo site! We cannot all be right about everything, of course, and some of us are too hot-headed for our own good, yet the strength of questions and answers shows that huge numbers of us care deeply about the things of Christ. As long as Christians keep pointing to Christ in their words and in their deeds, the Spirit of Christ will work for the honor of God's great name, and overcome the most formidable barriers. The very gates of hell will not be able to overcome the Church! But it was never going to be easy.

First of all Atheism does not "try" to disprove anything because atheism is the belief in no Gods. You cannot disproove anything concerning God because there is no proof in the first place. Secondly, The atheist population as a whole does not have to correlate with science. There is a possablility that some atheists dont know much about science. And finally, Religion such as christianity will create its own destruction because old myth's cannot live up to new scientific discoveries and knowledge. Things such as evolution, stem cell research, abortion, and gay marriage are all things being accepted in our society right now.

The greatest danger to any religion is the attitudes and behavior of those who "practice" it. Why are some people afraid if Muslims? Because of the extremist terrorists. It is the hypocrites in any religion that will be the most dangerous to it. The greatest danger to Christianity are the "Christians" who will answer atheistic questions will answers like "you're going to hell" or "you're a fool." Not a very Christian-like attitude is it?

It's really not an outside force at all.
The greatest threat to Christianity comes from within our own ranks. At times, I can see how the "rest of the world" views us as a bunch of nut-jobs. There are so many actions, beliefs, and crimes that are lumped under the umbrella of Christianity, it's scary and it gives us all a bad name.

The largest threat atheism? Wrong.
The largest threat to Christianity are Christians. It's greedy con-artists like Ted Haggard and Pat Robertson. It's souless mega-church marketing machines. It's hate driven political agenda's being fused with right-wing politics. It's overall apathy to anything Jesus had to say, but preoccupation with materialistic pursuits and empty ego-centricism.
I know many Christians can't wrap their minds around this fact, but atheists are a minority in the overall population. In America, over 75% of people claim to be Christian. How can atheism be the "great threat" if they're overwhelmingly outnumbered?

The greatest threat to Christianity is fundamentalist Christians. If liberal and moderate Christians don't control their extremest brethren, the institution of Christianity will be relegated to the trash-bin of history, along with countless other obsolete mythologies. If Christianity cannot find a way to peacefully co-exist with the realities of modern human civilization -- science, reason, logic, and truth -- it will simply become extinct.

I think the word "threat" must be further defined in order to answer your question appropriately.
The way that I interpret "threat" leads me to say that there is nothing upon the face of this earth that truly threatens Christianity. Why?
Well, in the end the Christian theology teaches that God will judge all people and that all those that have repented of their sins and accepted Christ's death upon the cross as payment for their sin debt will go to Heaven and everyone else will finally confess that Jesus is Lord.
So, while there may be hardships and difficult times for the Christian upon the face of this earth in the end he will be victorious because of God.

As an atheist, I do not try to solve how the earth was created.
I leave that to the scientists.
I just dont' believe in your theory, it doesn't automatically make me a believe in anybody else's theory.
I just go with the more plausible explanation, with the most proof. I don't believe the world was created by turtles either, which was also offered by some Native American Religions.
I don't have to believe yours, why are you so offended, that I don't?

Atheists are not trying to disprove anything. We don't believe in God. He has yet to be proven to US. There's a difference.
We know (or at least, most of us know) that a theory is PROPOSED fact: there's still a chance it's wrong. Theories have merely stood up to rigorous testing. We freely admit that there's a lot of unanswered questions. Saying "I don't know" is actually liberating in that it now permits you to seek your answer. Throwing a God security blanket over everything only covers it up.
I'd say the answer to your question is "Truth." Truth is the greatest danger to Christianity.
