i have three pit bulls and they are great dogs, and love babies and little kids! my pit debo is the sweetest dog i have ever met! and i am not just saying that because i love him...he is like a big baby! he cuddles with my mom all of the time and sleeps in my mom and dads bed with them...he is so gentle and i dont think that people have the right idea about them at all!

Because of all the negative publicity that pit bulls have received in the news, they are negatively stereotyped. Yes, they can be bred to be fighting dogs that are trained to bite and not let go until the thing they attacked is dead, BUT most of them are not trained that way. Since they are such strong animals, many people are afraid of what they have heard from the media. It's a shame that negative stereotypes affect us so much.

Because a lot of pit bull owners use the dogs as status symbols and train the dogs to be aggressive.
Most pit bull visibility involves negative depictions - dog fighting, spiked collars, aggressiveness, etc.
Petey, the dog in the Little Rascals tv show, was a pit bull. At that time, pit bulls were seen as great dogs for homes with children.

One thing is a dogs character, another thing is the dogs genetics. Although word on the street is that they are mean, they really are good animals to have around kids.
The American Kennel Club dubs them as part of the "American Staffordshire terriers" breed. When it comes to it's personality, provided proper socialization has taken place, this breed gets along fine with cats or other household pets. It makes a good family dog as long as the family can handle its boisterousness. It will protect your home, and it may be eager to fight other dogs.
So if the say they are mean, tell them to do their research first (most people believe the first thing they hear, LOL!) Check my resources below for more info!

The only Pitbulls that are overly aggresive are the ones that either are cross-bread with other breeds, inbread with lesser quality pitbulls, or ones who are trained to be aggressive (fighting dogs: usually the ones who attack people and show up all over the news)

It's because people don't understand that it's not the dog, but certain types of people who tend to own Pits.
A lot of people with Pits like to make them aggressive because they think it's 'cool' - not to mention dogfighting. Pits are one of the easier breeds to train to be aggressive, and sometimes they are inexplicably vicious. They seem like 'mean guard dogs' due to rap videos and urban culture (I hate to say that) and some people find that attractive... which makes them create a dangerous animal they end up unable to control.
Pit Bulls are not bad dogs. They are very devoted family dogs. But they need strict training, and a loving hand or they may turn out dangerous. You need to be careful who they're exposed to, and you probably need to keep them on your own property only. Just in case. It covers your own ***, at least. Pit Bulls are not dogs for people who don't know how to train dogs. People like that need Labs. ;\

The most visible Pits belong to people who are not as responsible with their dogs as you, so their pits are not as sweet.
Pits are very strong and confident. If you mess with a pit bull, he usually will not get scared, but will move toward you. If he has not been treated gently, then he may not react gently...
And many people who get Pit Bulls, get them because they are tough looking dogs.

Because pit bulls get negative publicity, as most of their owners are ignorant and try to get them to fight, and then they end up hurting an animal or a human. Animals usually end up ruined because of ignorant human beings. I had a female and she was a doll, even took care of the cat's kittens. BUT, I never mistreated her and I loved her and rewarded her often.

People think that Pit Bulls are mean beacuse their known to attack people [{mostly kids}]. People see it all the time in the news how people are gettng injured and killed beacuse of this type of dog, but it's all up to the owner and how you raise them. Seems to me that your dogs are being raised beautifully!!!

People are generally afraid of what they don't understand. Pitbulls are highly misunderstood. You have to make a dog vicious. People who think that they are natural born killers have obviously never taken a pitbull puppy and raised it from birth. They are amazingly loving and willing to please. Pitbulls attack people because somebody somewhere made that dog have an aggressive personality. I own two pitbulls and they are the biggest, goofiest, babies I've ever seen. They love all kinds of animals and all kinds of people.

I did know two when I worked at a vets office and those were mean but that was due to the training they were given.I hate to say but tehy needed to be put down.
But in most cases tehy are very sweet dogs.

All dogs are great! Its the owners who suck!
On the other hand, the only purpose the Pit was "created" and bred for, was to kill another animal!!!
Again, it's not their fault though.
