There are a couple things at play here. First, you need to make sure that you are eating correctly (the right foods and the right number of calories for your particular active level). I see that you are have met with a doctor, but are you journaling what you're eating so they can verify that you're eating a well-balanced diet?

Also, exercise is a must. Getting a half an hour of exercise every day will help you lose.

There is no magic formula/pill/diet that will help you lose weight. The magic is in the numbers. taking in less calories than you're expending in a day will make you lose weight.

(as a side note, there is a wonderful online site (free) that helps you track what you're eating...www..my-calorie-counter.com)

There could be health problems associated with your weight gain. Or medication. Though it doesn't sound like it's a lot of gain at once. This is happening over time. My guess is your metabolism is lowering over time. These are some things that will increase it-- Eat 6 small well balanced meals a day, drink lots of water, no sodas (of any kind), no sugar filled foods, Exercise. Walking or aerobics are really good. You should be walking at least 3 x's maybe 5 x's a week, for 30 min's to a hour to start. You need to find out your calorie intake for your weight and height, also. I would still go back to your doctor. Just in case.

There is one really important thing missing from the story above.... exercise. To lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you take in. Even if you eat well, if you don't burn the calories you take in, you'll gain weight. For most people that means getting at LEAST 30 minutes of exercise every day. Go back to the doctor and have him recommend an exercise regimen for you, then stick to it AND the good diet! You might consider having your thyroid gland checked, too, just in case it isn't your lifestyle. Good luck!

so many variables to your current situation. Could be heretitary. Could be improper dieting. Diet does not work without exercise. Could be a thyroid problem. I would definitely see a specialist to discuss my concerns. I noticed that you gained 17 pounds while dieting. With or without exercise, it was the most you gain over a one year period That could be an indicator that your condition may be medical. Consider changing your diet; work with an nutritionist ; definitely exercise and speak with a specialty physican. Just remember: committment is the key to success! Good luck!

Well how old are you? What kind of excersizes are you doing and how often are you doing them? What "diets" are you doing"? What are you eating?

There are too many unkowns right now to answer this question.

If you eat around 2000 calories a day and excersize 30-45 minutes a day, 5 days a week, you should go down. But there are many other things that factor in to this that we need to know.

Check out this website www.sparkspeople.com. Its free and sets you up with a excerssize and nutritional plan to follow to reach an ultimate weight loss goal.

You maybe on a diet but are you exercising? Your taking in more calories than your getting rid of. Try jogging 3 times a week and diet you will start to see the pounds go away.

Get checked out. Sounds like what happened to me, and everyone assumed I was just stuffing my face (not the case) and not exercising (does 1 1/2 hrs of dancing a night count?).

Turned out I have a pituitary brain tumor, polycystic ovarian syndrome and now, drumroll, epilepsy for which the meds have the side effect of, you guessed it, weight gain.

Don't take no for an answer, get second opinions. If you're doing everything you can right, and you've gained that much so quickly, you need to get checked.

good luck

chances are if you are dieting you will gain weight because to lose weight and keep it off you must change your eating habits and that is a life long change. If you are gaining weight the first thing you need to do is check with your Dr. and see if there is a health problem and if there is not one, that means you are just eating the wrong foods. If you stay away from anything white and do moderate exercise you should lose weight and keep it off.
I keep reminding myself that white is poison.

are you exercising as well as watching what you eat? Are you on a diet that fits your body type? Not all diets work with all people. Some need low fat, some low carb, some glycemic index, etc. There may be certain foods that, while generally good for you, may be hampering your efforts to lose weight. If you haven't joined weight watchers, consider doing so. It may be somewhat pricey, but it's well worth it, losing weight with a support group behind you.
