Is it just the religious Christian women here that are so frightened by sexuality? I have never seen a culture (outside of Islam) that looks down on women so much. I know, I know, just like Muslims you will say you RESPECT women, that's why you keep them covered up, protected and "pure," but we all know the truth.

I think I proved that this is a religious thing, because when I asked this question in General Society and Culture, I only got one response.

Yeah, 'cause women showing off any amount of skin turns them into shameful, vile temptresses who will obviously send the poor innocent men to hell, which is why governments need to prosecute rape victims for adultery.
(That is sarcasm, by the way. I just thought I'd mention that.)
Women have been second class citizens under Christianity from the very beginning.

It is not Americans but the English who are like this and then again, not really. Underneath it all, nobody is like this. Then again, just because marijuana and prostitution are legal in the Netherlands doesn't mean that most Dutch men spend their Saturday nights in coffee bars smoking large joints while talking to escorts.
The problem in America is a refusal to accept a woman's right to control her own body. That means allowing her access to birth control, condoms and abortion. This will decrease the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the Western industrialized world. It would also be better to help single mothers get off welfare by getting the men to pay alimony and child support (and training them for a job) instead of just handing out welfare cheques with nothing attached for years on end. There should be a three-year limit for welfare. Affordable daycare and housing are also important issues and the responsibiity of the community and state governments. Some states really lag behind on investments in public housing, daycare subsidies and the creation of decent-paying jobs, Louisiana, for example.

I dont believe its the state of the christians in the nation that has made this populous so over sexed. The media seems to have done that quite well for us. But thats a different topic.
As for myself, I have a close relationship with Christ, and you can bet my husband has no fears about my sexuality. Neither does my ever growing collection of lingerie.
Sex and all things about sex sure as hell are good, God made it after all. But its between a man and his wife. Not every man and any woman.
A woman should be beautiful and an honor to her husband and/or father. That can be done without walking around looking like a victoria secret runway model. In public, that is.

Nope I agree with you in America a woman is looked down upon when being openly sexual like a guy would. However we are also looked down upon when we hide our sexuality, then we're called a nice girl and not many guys want that. In America being a woman with an open sexuality is almost a double standard.

I've always found it a bit ironic that this country talks so much about sex, yet are not as free thinking as other countries. Women are idolized as sexual objects, but when a strong woman isn't ashamed of her sexuality, people thinks she is loose or trash or a slut. I love being a strong, sexually independent woman and am fortunate enough to have a man in my life that isn't threatened by that.

No!
Being a citzen of Canada and Europe, with family in Austrailia, and having just visited in Japan, I can confidently report that no developed nation is more sexually repressed than the USA.
I love this country, but it certainly has weak points.
